Page 111 of Chasing Savannah
“Great job, Charlotte.” He turned her body and marched her from his office, eager to get to the basement. “Let’s go see what they have to say.”
His panther circled his body in anticipation as they rode the elevator to the basement. He texted Derrick on the way down. His Beta met them as the doors opened.
Carlos’ eyes widened. “What, did you fly down the stairs?”
Derrick showed him his canines. “I’m ready.” He grabbed the back of Charlotte’s neck and rubbed his cheek against the top of her head. “Great job, Charlotte.”
“Thank you, Beta.”
“Which room has the one who touched our mate?” Carlos’ voice was deep, his panther riding him close.
She pointed to the last room and they followed her to the door. She stood back allowing them to enter first. Carlos walked in, his power jacked and straining against his control. The three enforcers standing around the prisoner exposed their necks. He smiled, their immediate submission pleasing his cat.
Their prisoner was chained to a metal chair. Charlotte had made good on her promise to her cousin, the cat was seriously worked over. But then, Carlos had no doubt her cousin would want revenge for what happened to Savannah. One of the male’s eyes was swollen shut, his lip busted, and healing bruises covered his face and neck. Though healing, a gouge on his cheek was still crusted over, which meant it was old enough to be from his mate.
Carlos growled in grim satisfaction.
The male spit blood on the floor, “I’m not saying shit until I see the council.”
“Council.” Carlos laughed. “As far as the council is concerned we’re still searching for the people who attacked our mate, right Beta?”
Derrick crossed his arms over his chest. “I’ll be properly distressed tomorrow when I let them know we haven’t been able to find them. ‘A whole twelve hours later and we have no clue as to who attacked our Fela.’”
The enforcers around the room growled at the reminder.
“Surely he’s made it back to his own territory by now?” Carlos said casually. “Perhaps when we’re done, we’ll leave your body back on your land, maybe they’ll think your Alpha punished you for your failure.”
“No, our scent would be all over him,” Derrick said.
“Good point.” Carlos rubbed his chin. “We’ll just burn the remains. What do you think, Charlotte, will that get rid of the scent?”
“It would indeed, Felix. And if it doesn’t, my granddaddies taught us a few ways to dispose of a body.”
“Excellent,” he turned to one of his enforcers. “Go burn the bodies of the others. Not to ash, just enough to burn off our scent and drop them at the edge of our border.”
The male in the chair squirmed, looking uncomfortable for the first time as one of the enforcers left the room to seemingly do his bidding.
“My Alpha will strike back.” The male threatened.
Carlos lifted his lip, his canines dropping. “Will he? Good, we’re looking forward to it.”
Some of the cockiness leeched from the male’s eyes. “You’re a new prowl, no match for us.”
“And yet, here you and your friends are, caught within a few hours of attacking our mate. And how did that go by the way?” Derrick asked.
Carlos leaned over him, his voice lowering, “if three of you can’t handle one alpha female and her guard, why the fuck do you think we’d be scared of anyone in your prowl?”
The snarls around the room showed the pride in their Fela. That pride traveled down the prowl link, gaining strength as it flowed down the hierarchy. The door opened and another alpha power entered. He didn’t bother pretending to be surprised. He knew the males would not sit at home idly.
“I see we’re a little late to the party.” Harper said casually, posting up against the wall at the door.
Jeremiah stepped closer to the cat. “I see tales of my granddaughters’ handiwork were not exaggerated.”
Carlos smiled.
“The old alpha lives, and you think you’re a match for our Felix. What kind of pussy leaves the old Felix to live?” The male taunted.
Carlos and Jeremiah both laughed.
“Seems we overestimated their intellect, Felix.” Jeremiah said shaking his head. “Have you figured out how to remove our scent when we’re done?”
“Just discussing that in fact. Charlotte said you had some interesting techniques,” Carlos said casually.
“We do indeed.” Jeremiah pushed his hands into the pocket of his worn jeans. “On your mark, Felix.”
The panther’s eyes widened, true fear coloring his scent for the first time. Carlos figured he thought they’d been bluffing. He fully planned for the cat to be dead before the night ended. He would send a message to his father or anyone coming up behind him. No one would fuck with their prowl and live to tell about it.
