Page 81 of Chasing Savannah
His phone rang and he stretched to get it from the bedside table without dislodging her. It was Carlos. “Speak of the devil.”
She tensed and her nervousness transferred across their bond. He put the call on speaker to reassure her.
“What are you doing?” Carlos’ voice was gruff.
He angled his head to nip her lip. “Thinking of how to convince our mate to stay in bed without feeling guilty.”
Carlos laughed. “Well, I’m a little jealous that I’m dealing with prowl business and you’re in bed with Savannah.”
“She’s naked too,” Derrick said.
She swatted his arm, her face reddening.
Carlos groaned, “I can be up there in like an hour, can you keep her naked that long?”
“No,” she answered, rolling off him and burying her head in a pillow.
They both laughed. “I’ll work on that until you get here.” Derrick ended the call on Carlos’ laugh.
“I’m hungry.” She announced and got out of bed. She grabbed a t-shirt hanging over a chair in his bedroom and smelled it. “So good,” she moaned and put it on.
“Have mercy,” he whispered as she walked away, the shirt lifting and showing off her ass.
He would most certainly try and keep their mate naked until Carlos could make it upstairs.
****
Carlos cursed and deleted the last two paragraphs in his email proposal. Between the messes with the prowl, he still had a business to run and new clients to cultivate. Except…
Now all he could think about was his mate upstairs, naked with his Beta. God, he wanted to join them. He adjusted the bulge in his trousers and tried to concentrate again. He glanced at the time. He could finish what he was doing and go up before his next conference call.
His desk phone beeped a moment before his assistant spoke. “There is an enforcer here to see you.”
He growled in frustration. He’d never get any work done and worse, he wouldn’t get to have afternoon sex with Savannah.
“Fine.” He barked into the phone.
Brielle strolled in, a pair of fitted jeans, torn at the knee and a blue button down, hastily tucked into the front of her pants. She had the sleeves rolled up and carried a suit jacket in her right hand, he assumed to cover the knife holster she wore on the side of her belt. He wondered where else she hid weapons.
Her panther moved through her body in his presence, the cat sending a flare of power in greeting. Her power was stronger than when they last saw each other. He felt a small amount of pride for that, because as a whole, the prowl’s power was rising. He couldn’t imagine how it would rise once their Tribond was completed.
“What can I help you with, Brielle?” He waved her into one of the chairs in front of his desk.
She pulled her hair up into a bun as she sat. Her hand was covered in scars and nicks, no doubt from the many fights and challenges she had to go through to get to her position in the hierarchy.
Brielle crossed her legs. “Got a report and I can’t find the Beta.”
He snorted. “He’s otherwise occupied. What do you have?” He closed the screens he was working on.
“There is a lot of buzz in the surrounding prowls about you. They don’t know it’s you specifically, but they understand that there is a new power in town. I put a few different stories about you out to people I know will spread it.”
He sat back impressed. “To what result?”
She leaned forward and set her elbows on her knees. “Well, for one, we want it known that we have a new Felix. A young one. That will automatically put off some of the prowls sniffing around to take territory from us. For two, it will bring any who would want to renew their alliance with us forward in a rush to solidify our truces.”
He smiled, very pleased with his new enforcer.
“What?” She asked.
