Page 127 of Chasing Savannah
“And this council will overrule it. We’re not willing to let our children’s school become a battle ground. A truce was laid out, that school and our children were to be off limits.” The bear’s power flexed, accompanying his statement.
Yasim scoffed. “They can’t take out an entire prowl, that’s a precedent that shouldn’t be set.”
Savannah opened her mouth, but Brianne squeezed her hand and spoke up. “We didn’t ‘take out’ an entire prowl. We went in to get our cubs, they fought and unfortunately there were casualties. The ones who kidnapped our cubs were punished.”
“It’s not your place to punish.” Yasim sneered.
Brianne stood taller. “It’s my Fela’s place to do anything she felt right for the safety and well-being of our prowl.”
Derrick’s gaze didn’t leave their mate. His eyes devoured her, his panther damn near purring in his subconscious. The alphas around the room argued back and forth about punishment but he only had eyes for Savannah. She’d walked into the room, her Fela power around her like a mantle. In that moment he let go of any lingering doubts he had. He finally had the family he craved, and a strong prowl in which to protect them.
“Who gives a fuck what the high council has to say on this?” Yasim’s voice cut into his thoughts.
The whole of the high council turned as one to face Yasim.
“You wanna repeat that,” the lion said, his voice bringing power into the room.
Carlos raised his hand. “Gentlemen, let’s not get into a power match. My prowl will not pay a cent of recompense for what was done. As my mate said, allowing them to get away with stealing our children sets a dangerous precedent.”
Derrick held his hand out and his mate grabbed it hastily. The touch of her skin against his soothed him. He closed his eyes.
“I don’t regret a second of it,” Savannah stepped forward, clutching his hand tight. “They deserved to die. Now the next person who even thinks of threatening our children will think twice.” She looked directly to Yasim.
“The high council agrees. This meeting is adjourned.” The bear announced and the high council stood as one and walked out.
Carlos waited until the door closed. He grabbed Savannah’s other hand. “We may be a new prowl, but I promise you, don’t wanna keep trying us.”
He turned with that threat and they all walked out. Savannah’s feet moved fast as she struggled to keep up with the Felix’s long stride.
“That was close,” Savannah whispered as they took the elevator down.
Carlos merely grunted. Derrick waited until they were in the parking lot before he turned to face his mate.
He cupped her cheek. “Why do you have contacts on the high council?”
She grabbed his wrist and kissed it. “You’d be surprised what kind of contacts I have.”
“Not here,” Carlos growled, obviously still peeved about the proceedings.
Derrick helped Savannah into the back seat and they took off for home.
The ride was quiet but the tension and energy was heavy in the car. By the time they got to the prowl house, Derrick’s hands were shaking with impatience, his panther shredding his insides to come out. He took a shaky breath. As soon as the elevator doors closed, he was shedding his clothes. Savannah squealed and backed against the wall.
“Don’t run, mate. Clothes. Off. Now.” Derrick unsnapped his pants and stalked to their mate. He had just enough to control to keep his claws sheathed.
Carlos growled and crossed his arms over his chest, leaning against the wall across from them.
“We’re doing this here?” She was breathless.
“Hit the button, Alpha.” Derrick ordered.
“With pleasure.” Carlos slapped the emergency stop on the elevator.
Savi squealed again as it jerked to a halt.
“Clothes, mate.” Carlos growled.
She stripped quickly, and with every article of clothing she threw off, Derrick’s panther slammed against his subconscious. She gave him a coy look from beneath her lowered lashes and he squeezed his cock to keep from releasing. He growled, long and low, and Savannah’s nipples beaded.
