Page 83 of Chasing Savannah
“Another thing we’ll need to have our story straight on before we go to the council.”
He nodded in agreement. They definitely could not go into his very first council meeting with the threat to his prowl members hanging over their head.
“So far, she didn’t see anything. But, she managed to fight them off herself. By the time back up arrived they were long gone.”
He hummed. It matched the report Derrick had given him this morning. “We’ll brainstorm when the others get here.
Derrick strolled into the near full office twenty minutes later, smelling of their mate and Carlos closed his eyes and gripped the arms of his chair. He wanted to go back upstairs to Savannah. Derrick wiggled his eyebrows at him and he shot him a bird and laughed.
Derrick saw Brielle and Brianne as well as the young seer. “Ladies.” A chagrined look on his face since they’d beat him there.
Brianne raised her chin. “Are you surprised to see us here?”
He frowned, “no, Felix said we were meeting about our council appearance, don’t you handle council matters?”
She looked perplexed. “Well, yes. Yes, I...”
Carlos laughed. “She and her sister expected us to be pigs.”
She adjusted her skirt and scoffed. “In my defense, and you’ll soon see, I deal with a group of pigs once a month in council meetings. If grandfather wasn’t with me, I don’t think anything for our prowl would’ve gotten done.”
Derrick shrugged. “I assume they haven’t seen you fight.”
Brielle snickered. “I told her she should slap them around a little bit, I’m sure it would change their attitudes.”
Brianne rolled her eyes. “And that’s why I’m stuck doing it.”
“That and you’re a PR rep.”
Theo sauntered in and waved. “Hey ladies…Brielle.”
Brielle stuck her tongue out at him and Theo laughed. He assumed it was some sort of inside joke so he sat on the sofa next to Joelle.
She smiled at him. “I take it things are going well.”
He laughed and waggled his eyebrows. “Thank you for what you did for our mate. She’s a lot more…amenable to our Tribond now.”
“I bet,” she said smiling.
Once everyone was in the room they started the meeting. The council meeting was coming up and they needed to make sure they presented a united front.
“We need to get a firm grip on the way this first meeting goes for us. We need to control the narrative early on.” Brianne pulled out a tablet. “Beta, for this first meeting you will need to attend for a show of force.”
“All of us in the room, will attend.” Carlos leaned back in his chair.
Joelle started with surprise. “Me?”
“Yes, I don’t know what your duties were with Felix Jeremiah, but in the army, everyone who could be of use, was used. I want insight on everyone in the room and you can provide that faster than Derrick usually can. He gets little snatches of stuff, but having you there will help.”
Theo spoke up. “That’s a big show of force.”
Brianne agreed. “But in this one instance, we can use your ignorance of the process to our advantage. They don’t know anything about you. You’re not from around here, and it can’t be helped if you don’t know how the council is run.”
“You’ll take that hit though, Brianne.” Theo said.
She nodded. “They think I’m female and therefore dumb. I can afford it.”
“She’ll take the hit how?” Derrick asked.
