Page 126 of Chasing Savannah
Chapter 41
Carlos stood in the middle of the room, the alphas on the Florida council all staring in judgement. He clenched his hands, fighting down his panther. He was pissed, and not really having the stores of patience he normally would.
He’d spent the night consoling his mates, helping them fight through nightmares and to say he was on edge was an understatement. He’d left Savannah in the car, talking rapidly to someone on her cellphone and his Beta stood beside him, Derrick’s anger a hot lash at Carlos’ side. His best friend snarled under breath.
Brianne stood in front of them along with Theo, speaking for their prowl. His liaisons were good, their argument for their decisions sound. But, he had a feeling Yasim had a lot more friends on the council than he did, so they would make sure his prowl suffered.
“They didn’t even know that prowl existed two weeks ago, now their affronted on their behalf.” Derrick growled.
Theo turned and shot them a look. Derrick clamped his mouth shut.
“A debt is owed to the remaining prowl members. You killed their alpha, along with a lot of their stronger enforcers. They’ll be helpless until they can regroup.” The East coast Alpha stated.
“And I’m sure you lot don’t plan on divvying up their little bit of territory amongst yourself.” Carlos growled.
“Well…” they huffed.
Yasim waved away his words. “It’s our duty to take care of the disbanded prowl. Recompense is owed.”
The doors opened and his panther leapt in joy as his mate stormed into the room.
“They’re lucky we didn’t burn their shit to the ground.” Savannah declared.
Behind his mate were alphas from other species, their powers filling the already testosterone laden room. Bear, wolves, and he inhaled…lions. They entered and with them, their power. They all nodded at Carlos, a wary, but respectful greeting.
“We will be intervening on behalf of the Tampa prowl.” The bear announced.
Brianne stepped back to Carlos. “The high council.” she whispered.
One panther stood from his chair. “You can’t do that.”
“We are doing that,” the wolf alpha lazily sauntered to an empty chair and slouched into it.
The bear sat as well. “Where are we in the proceedings?”
Awe filled him at Savannah’s feat. So that’s what she was doing on the phone.
She gave them both a pleading look for understanding, but walked past them. “If you reward this prowl with even a tiny square footage of our territory then it will embolden the next prowl.”
“You should pay for what you did. And no amount of smooth talking from that one should get you out of it.” Yasim pointed at Brianne.
“They should pay for breaking the sanctity of our children’s school. Do you want the next hungry prowl to use your child in a bid for your land?” Savannah asked.
A few of the Alphas shuffled uncomfortably. Carlos watched his mate in pride and hunger.
“Our children also go to that school, and I’m to understand that the prowl in question went onto school grounds and kidnapped the alpha’s child?” The bear asked.
“It’s not even his child,” Yasim spoke up.
Carlos growled, his panther riled. “That’s the last time you speak about my son.”
The wolf smirked.
The bear slammed his hand on the table. “That prowl violated the safety of the school, a school I will remind you that has been declared off limits and one where all of our children go. As far as I’m concerned, the Tampa prowl set a stunning example of what happens when our children are fucked with.”
The wolf, smiled, his canines low. “I vote for no punishment.”
A panther alpha snarled. “This council has decided.”
