Page 12 of Chasing Savannah
“So, what will happen?” Savannah chewed her lip.
“Far be it for me to tell you to stay out of alpha affairs, but…” he paused.
She let out an exasperated breath ignoring her cousins’ laughter. “Fine, I’ll stay out of it.”
He chuckled. “This alpha, perhaps?”
“No.” She shut him down. “I’m good on marriage, and I don’t need my grandfather setting me up on dates.”
“You married someone not for you.” He reminded her.
“Granddad.”
She didn’t want to get into the lecture on her marriage, especially with Naomi and Charlotte’s suddenly rapt attention focused on her. Besides, she got Jamie in the deal, she would not regret it, no matter how brief.
“For latent women, I have the most stubborn granddaughters.” He commented.
“Love you too, old man.” She hung up and looked at her cousins.
Savannah was a little worried, still. He’d said no violence, but who could really tell what a new alpha would do to their prowl. “So?”
They both shrugged. There was a knock on the door and the three of them scrambled to the front window. It was Derrick. Savannah gave her cousins a wide-eyed glance.
“Who is that?” Naomi whispered.
“Derrick,” she hissed. And rushed for the door.
He stood there, his aura dripping sex. She cleared her suddenly dry throat. “Hey.”
“Hi.” He spared a quick glance behind her. “We’re all going out to eat to celebrate our arrival, would you like to come? Your friends are invited too.”
She stared at him for a long moment, debating. It must have been longer than she realized because a coin hit the side of her head and shook her from her thoughts. Derrick cleared his throat and covered a laugh as it bounced away.
She groaned in embarrassment. “Yes, sure. Just give me a moment to change clothes.”
He smiled. “Take your time.”
She closed the door as he walked away and spun around, glaring at her cousins. “What is wrong with you bitches?”
“You were the one standing there looking dumb. We helped you out. You’re welcome.” Naomi crossed her arms over her chest.
“Should I tell them the local Felix is my grandfather?”
Charlotte narrowed her eyes. “I say feel them out first. See what kind of person Carlos is. You heard grandfather. If the land welcomes him, he’ll be the new Alpha. You can do a little snooping and let us know what you find out.”
“Who is ‘us’?” Savannah put her hands on her hip.
“The cousins, duh. We’re still enforcers for the prowl. Forewarned is forearmed.” Charlotte put a hand in her sister’s face as Naomi mimicked her word for word.
She debated Charlotte’s proposal. Her cousin was right, it couldn’t hurt to know what kind of person Carlos was and maybe what kind of alpha he would be. No, she didn’t go to prowl meetings, but her son was a full shifter and he would be a part of the prowl. She should know what he would be getting into. Should she ask outright and demand to know what they were going to do? Maybe nothing so bold, but she could feel them out, see what kind of man Carlos was.
“I’ll see what I can find out, Char.”
“Since I don’t go to prowl meetings, it doesn’t concern me. What does concern me is why you didn’t jump that guy’s bones last time he was here.” Naomi waggled her eyebrows.
“I can’t with you, Naomi.”
“She’s not wrong though, Vanna. He’s fine as hell. If he looked at me the way he stared at you, I’d climb him like the tall tree he is.”
Naomi laughed and bumped fists with her sister.
“You too, Char?” She threw her hands up.
“Well, we’re going to leave so you can get dressed.” Naomi dragged her sister out the door.
“Don’t dress like a mom and embarrass us.” Charlotte threw over her shoulder.
Savannah closed the door in her smirking face and leaned back against it. Dinner, with two men who’d awakened both her body and the power she’d long suppressed. Easy as could be, right?
