Laura touched her hand. “Carlos is a great Felix. He really wants this transition to go smoothly. He has a daughter, she’s with our parents until Carlos gets everything settled here. Trust me, Carlos would never endanger that little girl.”

“And Derrick?”

Laura gave her a sly look. “Derrick is our Beta. He and Carlos are really close, you know.”

Savannah hummed, but motioned her to continue.

“I heard rumors that they share their women.” Laura whispered.

Her cheeks burned, but she kept her face straight. “But what is he like?”

Laura pouted. “Fine, if you wanna be like that.” She pushed a hand in her hair. “He’s awesome. We sort of adopted him into our family when he and Carlos left the army. My parents love him, the kids adore him. You couldn’t ask for a better Beta.”

Savannah nodded, too chicken to ask more pointed questions. “Well, I have to go pick up Jamie from his father, thank you for the info, and I feel much better.”

“Hmph, so you’re not going to share?”

“What? I just want to know what’s in store for my family.” Savannah shrugged.

Laura stood with her and gave her a hug. “You should really reconsider coming to the changeover. It would be nice to have you there, and you can see for yourself.”

She shrugged. “I’ll think about it.”

Maybe.

Maybe she’d think about renewing her link with the prowl. It had been some years and a heck of a lot of tears. While she was mostly tolerated by her cousins higher up in the hierarchy, those still fighting for a spot regularly used their challenge to her to show off their prowess. Her grandmother said it was because they sensed her innate power, but she didn’t care what it was. Between the fighting and what the prowl’s Seer had told her when she was younger, she’d stayed away. She didn’t know if she wanted to put herself through that again.
