There were other reasons, not ones that necessarily concerned them, so she left it at that. They needn’t know the prophecies surrounding her and her life if she stayed a part of her family’s prowl.

Theo tilted his head. “But your son isn’t latent.”

“We established that when we met. Granddad told me he has another year before I need to start preparing him to shift.”

“He should already be going to gatherings,” Theo said gently. “It’ll help him feel close to the prowl, and help strengthen the prowl link he’ll need for his first shift.”

Savannah sighed at the assumption, but answered his unspoken question. “I’m aware. I’ve gotten the lectures from grandfather. Just because I don’t go, doesn’t mean he doesn’t. Grandpa Harper comes and gets him. He spends a lot of time on prowl land. I visit my grandparents, I just don’t go to meetings or gatherings.”

Nor did she spend more than a couple of hours at her grandparents’ house on the off chance one of her cousins would come and start shit with her. It happened often enough that her internal clock always knew when it was time to leave.

Theo nodded, respect coloring his gaze.

“I don’t play about my baby, Theo.” She reassured him.

“I see that.” He took another sip of his coffee.

“Your ex is human, right? How did he take it when you told him?” Laura asked.

“About Jamie? Greg knew it was a chance before we married, he doesn’t say anything one way or the other.”

“So, your questions?” Theo steered the conversation back.

“Grandad says he has a deal with Carlos to turn over the territory without a challenge?”

Theo nodded. “I negotiated it myself.”

Relief coursed through her. She slapped a hand down on the countertop. “And Carlos agreed?”

Theo smiled and waggled his brows. “I take it since you’re asking me, you’ve been told to stay out of the Felix’s business.”

Laura laughed.

Savannah growled in frustration.

Laura laughed again and shrugged. “It’s the same thing I was told, you’re getting way more information that I’ve gotten about the whole thing.” She shot her husband a scathing look.

“I tried to talk to grandpa Harper this morning and he kept changing the subject. Is it a merger, a change over, when is it all happening?”

Theo held up his hand to stem the tide of her questions. “We’re merging the prowls and Carlos is taking over as Felix. Will you attend the changeover ceremony?”

She shook her head. “Grandpa Harper will come get Jamie, that’s why he called this morning. I imagine it will be a big to do, changing over Alphas.”

“You should go.”

She shook her head again. “That’s not for me.”

“Why not?” Laura perked up. “Wait, Naomi said you all don’t talk about it.”

“It’s a long story, one I don’t like reliving, so...”

It was a lot to explain to people she’d only known for months, so she clamped her lips shut.

“Fair enough.” He reached into the donut bag and grabbed two. “Well, I thank you for the donuts, but I’ve got work to do, and you ladies will not be getting any additional information out of me.”

He circled the island to get to his wife. He leaned down and gave Laura a kiss that scorched her just sitting next to them. Theo rubbed his cheek against the top of Laura’s hair and left the kitchen.

Savi turned to Laura once she heard a door close. “What’s your brother like? I know my grandparents told me not to worry, but I can’t help it.”
