He shook his head, “nothing, I just realized why your grandfather never seemed pressed about our negotiations. Between you and your cousins, he had all the time in the world to find a Felix who would fit this prowl.”
“Are you surprised a bunch of women could handle it?”
He snorted. “Have you met my sisters?”
She smiled.
“In most cultures, a panther’s spirit is female. Meeting and blending with this prowl, it fits.”
She inclined her head. “I suspect before the next council meetings you should be getting an ‘outreach’ of new friends wanting to make your acquaintance.”
“Who does council meetings, you or Brianne?”
“Brianne. She has way more patience than I.”
He grunted. “What are you doing today?”
“Working.”
He hummed. “For who?” All the panthers in his prowl worked for the prowl in one capacity or another. They rarely sought out jobs in the human world. He had to get used to the way the Tampa prowl operated.
“I’m a nurse at a shifter hospital near here, I’m on nights this week.”
He picked up the phone, “can you get your sister on the phone? I need a meeting with her, and Joelle, I think.”
She nodded.
“I’ll call the Beta and Simon and we will flush out what to do before our new friends start calling.”
She looked, pleased, surprised.
“What? You thought I was going to be a sexist pig?”
“Kind of. Most cats in this area are.” She laughed.
He smiled, “Brielle, you’re now my fourth in rank, anything that affects the security of this prowl you will know. Your grandfathers relied on your counsel, it will be no different with me.”
She nodded.
Derrick finally answered the phone and from his breathlessness, he was still busy with their mate.
He growled. “I’m officially jealous.”
Derrick laughed. “What is it?”
“I need you down here for a meeting.”
“Now?” Now the Beta sounded frustrated.
Carlos snickered, knowing it was petty. “Kiss our mate and come down. It’s about our council appearance.”
Derrick growled. “Ok, but like thirty minutes.”
“Now, Beta.”
He hung up and called Simon and then at the last minute thought about his brother in law. He used Theo in every negotiation he’d ever done for their prowl, he wanted him to be his representative in council meetings. Since Theo and Laura were his in-house council, he knew they would be in the building at least.
He turned back to Brielle once all the calls were made. “Any word on the prowl member attacked last night?”
