Page 83 of Two Daddies for Little Jenna
We were meant to have a playdate at Michael's place but looks like we would now have it at the cabin. We just sat there staring at the lake in silence, taking a moment to remember all the loved ones who weren't with us anymore. Then we took turns sharing our most fond memories of them.
When my stomach rumbled from hunger, I led everyone inside where all the Daddies were sprawled across the couch.
"She's here," Daddy Nick announced, clearing his throat. "Ready, Clark?"
"Ready for what, Daddies?" I skipped up to them and sat in their combined laps.
They looked the most nervous I'd ever seen them, which was something considering they were so confident all the time.
Clark looked at everyone around him as he gulped, nodding at Nick before shifting from underneath me and standing before us. When he knelt, I checked to see if he needed to tie his shoelaces, but when he pulled a small box out of his pocket, I practically squealed as I clapped my mouth shut.
"Oh my God, it's happening," Michael whispered as he jumped where he stood and clapped excitedly. "Princess would've barked her head off in excitement."
"This isn't happening," I said as Clark smiled at me. "This is just a dream."
Nick pinched me on the arm and I winced in pain. "Nope. Looks like reality to me."
"Do you want to open it and see what's inside?" Clark asked, to which I shook my head no and there was instant disappointment in his eyes. "Oh? I guess we'll do this when you feel ready. There's no rush."
"What if there's a wedding ring inside, but I don't survive long enough to get married?" I asked, my voice cracking. "I can't bear to die knowing I've given you both false hopes, making a promise I know I might not be able to fulfill."
"Darling!" Nick scolded. "Don't even say such a thing. What does your Daddy always say about negative thoughts? You can't let them and the what-ifs ruin your life. We're all here now and madly in love. It's all that matters."
I took a deep breath and nodded. "Open it, Daddy."
"Jenna, my sweetheart." Clark opened the tiny box to reveal the sparkly ring inside. "When I saved you from Otis, I realized how short life is. My willingness to die saving your life made me realize I love you more than I love myself. I've wanted to make you my wife from the day you told me you were a Little. You were so nervous then, but look how far you've come. You think you're full of flaws, but if only you could see yourself from my perspective. You'd see that you're perfect just the way you are. You're the best girl a Daddy could have. Should you make me the happiest man by saying yes, I promise I'll spend the rest of my life trying to be the best husband you could ever have. So, will you marry me, sweetheart?"
"Good god, yes," I said, tears forming in my eyes. "You wouldn't have to try. I know you'd be a good husband."
I pictured making them my husbands together, but if Daddy Nick needed time, then so be it. As long as I got to make them my husbands, the order didn't really matter. Daddy Clark knew me longer, and he'd given hints weeks ago that he'd like to make me his wife. Only I was expecting a proposal in the coming years, not so soon.
As I offered my hand to Clark, I wondered how things would be with Nick now. Instead of slipping the ring on my finger, Clark just smiled up at Nick. With a tear of joy running down my cheek, I turned to find Nick still just as nervous.
Nick swiftly sat me on the couch and knelt next to Clark. It was enough to make me burst into tears. All those years dreaming in the basement of getting married one day were coming true. But I knew back then it would never happen to me, that I was too irreparably fucked up due to my upbringing. But my Daddies taught me I deserved to be loved, and now they wanted to be my husbands.
"Aw, sweet bunny." Nick wiped my tears with a gentle smile. "I never had the opportunity to save your life like your Daddy, but I know I would've done the same. It's because I love you, Jenna. I know I haven't known you as long as your Daddy, but I love you just as much. I've been losing sleep wondering if you'll say no because this is too soon, but it feels so right. Will you make your silly Daddy happy by being my wife?"
"Yes, Daddy," I managed to say as I tried hard not to sob. "I love you both the same."
They looked at each other with big smiles. I knew they wanted to do their secret handshake, but instead, they slipped the matching rings on my finger.
Now it all made sense, the nervous looks on their faces when I'd walk in on them talking quietly to each other. They'd been planning this for days and I hadn't the slightest clue.
Now if only the threat to my life was taken care of, I could have my happily forever after. In a way, it was cruel of me to have said yes to my Daddies when there was a good chance I wasn't going to be alive for a wedding to take place. Future was never a guarantee, especially when a mad man was after you.
I shook my head to clear it. I was a good girl who listened to her Daddies. I couldn't let negative thoughts and what-ifs ruin my life. The teachings of my Daddies were all I had.
Standing up, I flashed the rings on my fingers to the group of Littles smiling at me. Michael squealed in excitement as the group closed in and gave me a group hug.
"You're getting married to your Daddies!" Michael announced as if I'd missed the whole thing. "Just like Elijah and I did. Don't you worry, hon'. Weddings can be stressful for us Littles, but Elijah and I have been through this. We'll help you every step of the way. We'll set you up with the best wedding planner in the city if it feels like there are too many decisions to make. There's a Mommy at the club who caters to Little's needs. Sorry, I'm going on and on. I'm just excited."
"Me too," I said when they broke the hug, looking back at my Daddies. "Me too."
My Daddies were being patted on the back by the other Daddies. They were the happiest I'd ever seen them, and I was the reason for bringing such joy in their lives. They always said so, but now it was so clear seeing it on their faces. We were destined for each other long before we'd walked into each other's lives.
All the Daddies got busy making elaborate meals for lunch, excitedly chatting about how different their lives were gonna be as husbands. It was a cause for celebration and the smell of dishes was a distraction as we Littles all gathered in the living room and gossiped about our Daddies while we built tower blocks. We spent the rest of the day chasing each other outside in the woods. Thanks to Elijah, we never got lost. We played a few party games inside in the evening.
When the sun had set, we drove back to Michael's house for the sleepover. He suggested we watch an animated film on the projector together in his home theater. He'd upgraded the room by getting the latest projector, having the wall broken down to expand it, installing a few love seats, and putting up his Little paintings all over the walls.
