Page 74 of Two Daddies for Little Jenna
Ever since we visited Megan a few days ago, Daddy Nick was a changed man. The difference was night and day, not just in the weight he was gaining back, but the weight that seemed to have been lifted. He was a much happier man now, even happier than when I first met him.
I always thought I was the glue holding the three of us together, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Daddy Clark had single-handedly managed to make our fears and worries disappear. We would've been a mess without him, and nowhere close to the family we now were.
This wasn't the last time my Daddies would have to face such big worries, and being a Little sometimes made me feel helpless when it came to helping them. I had a feeling this way going to last forever, and I was glad they had each other for times when I didn't know how to help them.
Now Daddy Clark placed me in the highchair at the table as I sucked on my thumb.
"No sucking on your thumb," Clark scolded and I instantly removed it out of my mouth.
"Are you excited for your playdate with Michael tomorrow?" Nick was swift in strapping me in while Clark fixed me up a plate.
"When am I not?" I giggled. "We're going to get in so much trouble again together. I can almost feel it. He always comes up with such naughty pranks."
My smile faded when he glared at me. "We're going to be on our best behavior is what I meant. You know me. Always behaving and being the good girl that I am."
"That's more like it," Clark said, placing the separated plate before me. "You should talk him out of trouble when he comes up with naughty shenanigans. Not eagerly take part in them."
I could barely listen to what he was saying. The plate before me was giving me shivers. Broccoli, baby carrots, cabbage, peas, with a small portion of brown rice.
"Is this all vegetables?" My jaw dropped as I looked up at them. "And looks like it's just boiled. That's it, I officially quit veggies for good. Twice the veggies were always a downside of having two Daddies, but things are getting out of hand. You don't even try to hide them in the meal like you used to anymore. Daddy Nick, I feel like this was your idea."
I crossed my arms in defiance and pushed my lower lip out in a pout.
Nick stroked one of my pigtails with a bright smile and took a seat. "Not even if I make little airplanes out of it?"
Forking a piece of broccoli, he moved it around in the air making flight sounds. "Oh no, we're running out of fuel. Maybe we can land in Jenna's mouth so we don't have to crash land."
"Crashland for all I care," I said, but seeing my mouth open Nick pushed the spoonful in my mouth.
"Daddy, you tricked me!" I kicked my limbs and pushed the plate away.
"Aw, you won't know if it's any good unless you try. Go on, sweet bunny. Chew it."
I hesitantly bit onto the piece of broccoli and it instantly turned into mush. I shivered in my seat and swallowed it before drinking a large sip of water from the sippy cup to get rid of the taste.
I covered my mouth so he wouldn't trick me again as I spoke. "Gross! Tastes like wood!"
Nick chuckled. "How would you know what wood tastes like? Wait, don't answer that. You licked a tree trunk when we were at Elijah's cabin in the woods, didn't you?"
"I did not! But now that I've eaten a portion of veggies, that's enough for the day. I’m not hungry at the moment."
Clark pushed my hand away from my mouth. "We won't trick you again, but you've gotta finish your meal. We've prepared it with love. See how good of a boy Elijah is. He eats nothing but veggies. All day every day."
"That's because he's vegan," I said. "I choose to eat nothing but meat, and I'd like you to respect my decision. Just like Elijah's Daddies respect his decision to eat nothing but plants."
"Sweetheart, we've been over this. I showed you the documentary just last week. Do you want to watch it again?"
I rolled my eyes. It was a documentary about how eating veggies cured participants of all sorts of diseases and made them healthier.
"It was clearly staged, Daddy. They looked like they'd chomp down on an entire chicken the moment the camera would turn off."
Nick sighed and put the fork down. "I didn't want to do this, but what if we reward you for finishing your food?"
"No, Nick," Clark said. "We can't bribe her for finishing her meal. Unless… Well, it did work once, but that was months ago. She ate veggies like a good girl for a week after the reward. Okay, here's the deal, Little one. You agree to eat every meal hereon for the rest of eternity, in exchange for one big reward. Take it or leave it. What do you say?"
"Depends," I said, narrowing my eyes in suspicion. "I don't think there exists a reward big enough to make me eat veggies for the rest of eternity. Eternity is such a long time, you know. That's at least one year we're talking about. At least. Is it going to be as enticing as the last reward?"
"Last reward?" Nick blinked blankly as he looked between us. "What was it?"
