"Fine," she said quietly. "I'll ask him once, but I'll make one of Michael's brand-new patent-pending signature faces. He can't say no to that."
I laughed. "Is it the one you used when you wanted me to buy you soda at the drive-in theater?"
When I felt her nod against my chin, I continued. "I know you want me there, but is there any other reason you want me to move in?"
I pulled away to look her in the eyes, which were now twinkling up at me.
"Like what, Nick?"
"Are you asking me to move in to make me feel less lonely?"
She shook her head frantically. She was lying and it was sweet. Age play relationships were built on trust and care. She wanted me to feel less lonely but she was too shy to admit it.
"And even if I was, it's nothing to be offended by. It isn't like I'm doing this out of pity. I like you and I want to spend a lot more time with you."
With hands around his mouth, Clark called for us. "Breakfast's ready, sleepyheads."
Chapter 20: Clark
"Oh, no." I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow. "You're making that face again. That face you made when you wanted to eat an entire tub of ice cream for breakfast."
Ever since our time in the woods, Jenna seemed quite restless. I knew she wanted to ask me something, but she would change her mind at the last minute. She was probably waiting for the right time when I was in a good mood and wouldn't say no to her. She rarely asked for things she wanted, so it wasn't like I would turn her down anyway. Unless it was something unhealthy or put her in harm's way, of course.
She had Doggo clutched to her chest and she was on all fours. With eyes like saucers, she was looking up at me. She bit her lower lip as it was trembling, looking like she was about to burst into tears any moment. Too bad I read the notice board at the club warning Daddies of Michael selling his signature moves in exchange for toys. He was teaching Littles ways to coax their Daddies into getting what they wanted. John would never let his boy use his gifts for such a purpose, so that naughty boy was probably being stealthy.
"Please, Daddy." Her eyes twinkled up at me. "Don't say no."
I rolled my eyes and scooped her up in my arms, seating her on my lap. "But you haven't even asked me yet, sweet girl."
"Oh," she said, a finger on her lip. "Can Nick please move in with us? He's apartment hunting but he belongs here with us, Daddy. I want us to live together and nothing would make me happier."
My babygirl was so innocent. She didn't know the ways of the world and how moving too soon could backfire in a dozen ways. But as long as I was with her, she didn't have to fear being hurt.
I was glad my plan was coming to fruition. Ever since I realized Jenna had a crush on Nick, I hoped and prayed for them to fall in love. Just as I'd hoped, I caught Jenna daydreaming about Nick instead of reliving her dark past. Sure, there were still times when she could do nothing but recollect the sad memories for hours together, but such incidents were fewer than before. All thanks to Nick. And now that he would move in with us, my dream of a fully healed Jenna was closer than ever.
"You used one of Michael's signature moves, so you must want it real bad, huh?"
She bobbed her head up and down. "Pretty please! I'll take Nick out on walks, I'll feed him on time and I'll play with him. Please don't say no."
I chuckled and pushed a strand of hair out of her face. "You make him sound like a pet, sweetheart. But you didn't have to plead with me at all. He makes you happy, so what more could I want. I know you have a hard time making decisions, so you must've thought about this long and hard."
Her face lit up and she wiggled in my lap, clapping her hands and bouncing wildly. "It's a yes then?"
I nodded. "I'll call him up right now."
Picking my phone off the coffee table, I dialed Nick. Jenna had her hands joined, literally praying Nick would say yes.
"I want you to start packing," I said the moment he picked up. "My girl wants you to move in with us."
There was silence on the other end for a few beats, except for his breathing. "Are you sure about this, Clark? I know you never say no to your girl, but I don't want you to feel obligated."
"I want this too," I confessed. "You're good for her and you know it. So start packing essentials right this instant and come on over. I know a good moving company and they'll help you with the rest."
I had a feeling this would be good for Nick too. Ever since Jenna told me how he lost his girlfriend, brother, father, and best friend all in quick succession, I wanted to help him. He needed Jenna just as much as she needed him, and it was the sweetest thing. It was like they were fated to fall in love and I was the cupid that was making it all happen.
For the next few hours, Jenna spent her time playing. She sang one of Nick's lullabies on repeat, her bottom wiggling side to side to the tune. It was the happiest I'd ever seen her, just as happy as the first time I confessed my love for her.
When it was time for her nap, I knew she'd be too excited to fall asleep. So I decided to sleep next to her in the crib. The warmth and comfort of my body were known to knock her out in no time.
