I wish it were true. I wish we had all the time in the world because I wanted to know every mundane thing about Nick, everything from what he liked to do in his free time to what his favorite films were. But what we had instead was right here and now, the events of which would end up repeating in an infinite loop in my head until I saw him again.

I walked over to the wall behind him and touched it. "The walls are all painted dark. I want Sadie to remember her birthday for the rest of her life. What better way than to show her a few happy moments over the past year. We could have a projector in this room and show them on this wall."

"Interesting." Nick rubbed his chin as he crossed the distance. "You could ask her Daddy for some pics and videos, preferably showing them both."

"Exactly," I said. "It could be a surprise and we could announce her Daddy personally selected the media. I'd take care of the editing, of course. Littles love animals, so I could ask her Daddy what her favorite animal is and make a funny video compilation. The other Littles would have a good time laughing together too. There'll be balloons scattered all over the floor. A bunch of games would follow the video compilation, games with stuffed animals as prizes. Maybe beer pong but with juice instead of beer, and a game where you aim candy into bins, with the winner taking home all the candy."

"All great ideas." He made a note of it in the notepad he'd brought along. "These things wouldn't even cost a lot. Candies and stuffed animals are inexpensive. We could use these ideas for other birthday parties too. What other ideas do you have?"

I walked back to the center of the room and I was glad Nick was close behind. I didn't know if my ideas were impressing Nick, but I hoped that being a Little gave me an edge.

"We could have themed cakes," I continued. "Film or character-themed ones for those who love cinema, and animal ones for others. Also, all the attendees get free candy to take home. You see, Littles don't need much to make them happy. Ooh… maybe a couple of mini fountains with liquid chocolate or flavored juice. And a few tapped fruit juices in the corner for health-conscious Littles."

I thought hard for a few more moments. "That's all I could come up with on the spot, but I can come up with more ideas and fun games."

"Well, that should be enough innovation." He smiled sheepishly. "The previous event manager pretty much looked at it from a grown-up's point of view. It resulted in declining bookings and pretty boring parties. I have to admit, you're really good at this. Hiring a Little to do the job this time around is turning out to be a great idea after all. If you manage to pull it off, it's gonna be one hell of a party, maybe even the best we've had so far. Once the other Littles see how fun a birthday party at the club can be, they'll all ask their Daddies to have theirs at the club as well. I'd confirm your hiring right away, but planning is only half the job. Execution is the other half. We'll have to wait for the guests' feedback before I confirm if you're hired."

"Of course," I said. "I'm just glad you gave me an opportunity."

He opened his mouth to speak but then swiftly changed his mind.

"What is it?"

"Nothing," he lied.

I stuck my lower lip out in a pout. "Are you having second thoughts?"

"No, I just…" He sighed and shook his head. "I knew I'd say something impulsively. I don't want to scare you away. I want you to succeed."

"Yes." I giggled, thinking it was such an obvious thing. "I want me to succeed too."

"You don't understand, Jenna. Ireallywant you to succeed. I have a confession to make. I've been looking forward to having you work here. When I first saw you, I thought you were really cute, the cutest girl there ever was."

It was all happening so quickly. Nick liked me back, but then why wasn't I excited? No matter how much Daddy reassured me, I had my fears of hurting him.

"Oh." I cleared my throat. "As you know, I'm happily in love with my Daddy. We both love each other so dearly."

"Yup, I turned my feelings off instantly when I realized you had a Daddy. All I've wanted since was to be your friend, and your colleague of course, which is why I'm excited to have you work here."

"Oh," I said in disappointment.

What was wrong with me? I wasn't happy if he liked me, nor was I happy if he just wanted to be friends.

"I overheard you telling your Daddy you wanted another Daddy," he continued, making my heart skip a beat. "I was sitting in the corner behind you guys in the playroom that night."

"It was just a hypothetical question, of course. I'm not actively looking for another Daddy."

"Oh," he said sadly, and it was his turn to be disappointed this time.

He had a hint of sadness in his eyes and I just couldn't bear to be the reason.

"But I won't say no to something that happens naturally." Blood rushed to my cheeks and I looked away in an attempt to hide it. "Daddy says life's too short to say no to things. Don't knock it until you've tried it, is what he says."

Hope returned in his eyes as he chuckled. "That's a good way to look at life. So your Daddy's down with it, huh? You're a lucky girl. You should see some of the Daddy doms at the club. They're so overprotective they get jealous if their Little as much as talks to another Daddy."

"Yeah, I guess I'm lucky I've got such a good one."

We just stood there staring at each other for a few beats. He had his hands in the pockets of his jeans and he was standing in a very confident pose. Add in his sexy smile and I was feeling weak in the knees.
