"Our hearts are given to us only once. Might as well listen to it instead of trying to fight it. Anyway, I'm proud of you for being on your best behavior tonight. Did you see how the other Littles were behaving? Looks like they don't get disciplined at all."

Jenna giggled. "Some were crying that they didn't want to go home so early, and some had glitter all over their clothes. That girl Rosie was practically dragging her Daddy back into the room because she wanted to play with her friends longer."

"Makes you think, though. Everything's relative. I thought Michael was naughty but they made him look like the best-behaved boy there. And I'm really proud of you for trying to socialize. You were scared you'd stand out since you've never been socialized, but you did so well. Aren't you glad you listened to Daddy?"

"Daddy always knows best," she said, holding onto my arm and yawning. "I was worried my upbringing had scarred me for life, but things are turning out pretty good, especially after landing that job tonight."

She was having a hard time keeping her eyes open, but she was too lost in her thoughts to fall asleep. Ever since Otis tried to kidnap her, she had a hard time falling asleep, and she'd wake up from her naps too early.

"What's bothering you, sweetheart?" I asked. "I want you to be honest. Is it about that drunk who tried to feel you up tonight? Do you want to talk about it?"

"No, Daddy," she said quietly, letting out a sigh. "Nick stepped in just in time and managed to save me. You should've seen how mad he looked. He looked like he was mad someone was trying to be disrespectful to me, but he didn't know me so that probably wasn't the reason. I knew you'd look just as mad if you had come up to rescue me instead. Maybe it's why I want to be Nick's friend. Nothing more."

"What's going on in that pretty head of yours then?"

"I don't want you to worry when there's nothing to be done, Daddy."

I gave her a look that said she was being silly.

"I'd gladly take your worries if it meant you get to sleep peacefully."

"I…" She couldn't get the words out so I pulled her in closer. "I feel guilty about sending my parents to prison, Daddy."

"But it was the only way to save your siblings, honey."

"I know." She nodded. "I always wanted to be a good daughter. You're supposed to do everything to protect your family, but I sent them to prison instead. There are infinite futures like Michael once said, but only one past. I sent my parents to prison and nothing's going to change that."

"No, you can't let their brainwashing win. You're a hero who almost sacrificed your life to save your siblings. I don't care what anyone says, but to me, you'll always be a hero. With everything you've been put through, it's a miracle you've come so far."

She gave me a genuine smile, but soon the lies she'd been taught all her life took over and the sadness returned. I suggested she go to therapy, but she wanted to wait till the wounds didn't feel so fresh anymore. It was painful for her to talk it through and she needed some time to be ready.

This was exactly why she needed twice the love. My love had brought her so far, and now I hoped Nick's love would bring her the rest of the way to recovery. Now all I could do was hope Nick liked her back.

Chapter 8: Jenna

Ever since the day I met Nick, I'd been constantly replaying the memory of him saving me. Each time I remembered how good it felt to be held in his strong arms as he sang me his song, I tried to forget the whole thing. I told myself he was just being nice, that any decent man in his position would've done the same.

Maybe it was better not knowing Daddy was fine with me having a second Daddy. Maybe then I wouldn't have this hope of having Nick as a Daddy. No, I couldn't entertain such thoughts. Daddy might say he's fine with it, but I couldn't risk making him feel his love for me wasn't enough. I had to stay professional at work and choose not to act on my attraction if that's what this was.

Now I was back at the club for what I hoped would be my first day at work. When Daddy dropped me off, he had a look in his eyes I hadn't seen before. Was it a look of hope that Nick would like me back? He wanted to give me everything in the world to make me happy, but this was something he had no control over, and maybe it made him feel a bit helpless.

The moment I saw Nick in his office, my resolve to stay professional was out the window. His broad shoulders swayed from side to side as he walked towards me. I was mesmerized by how brightly red his hair was. I had a thing for bright colors and the blueness of his eyes wasn't making things easier.

I wanted to tell him how much I missed him, that he was all I could think about the past few days, but instead, all I said was, "Hi."

"You look so different dressed as a Big," he said, leading me out of his office and towards the main area of the club. "Almost didn't recognize you. Feel free to come to work dressed as a Little if it’s something you prefer. Here at club Kink, we want our employees to be themselves. Besides, I don't think anyone would object to you dressed as a Little considering how good you looked."

Cute was the word he was looking for, or so I thought. Maybe he didn't want to call someone else's girl cute. I might be dressed as a Big, but having Nick around me had my Little side wanting to burst out.

Leading us to an empty room, he stood in the middle of it.

"It's so much bigger than I thought." I suppressed the urge to skip around the room. "Much bigger than the weekly events."

"Yeah, I wanted Littles to have enough room to run around." He handed me a sheet of paper. "Here's a list of vendors and the Daddy who's throwing the party. You can contact the Daddy and ask him which services he'd prefer for his Little, Sadie's birthday. Contact the vendors accordingly and arrange for a suitable delivery time. Since you're allowed to take liberties, have a look around and let me know how you’d make this the best birthday party ever."

I stared at the wall behind Nick as ideas already began to form in my head.

"Take your time," he added after a few beats. "There's no rush. The club doesn't open for several hours, so we've got all the time in the world."
