She urged, “Stop being so crazy and jealous over a pup. Alexander isn’t your mate, but the signs that she could be his are certainly there. Stop ignoring them before you are killed for a man who was never yours and gives no shits about you.”
“He finds you annoying which is clear as day on his face. Elise doesn’t even like you anymore.
Alexander is quiet around most people, but he loves Elise like a sister.
If she tells him to stay away from you that’s exactly what he will do.
You dug your own grave. You could’ve been friends with him.
Leave our Beta’s daughter and Alexander alone. Your obsession will be the end of you.”
Charlene snorted, “Who needs you anyway? Fake friends are the worst.” Kristin sighed, “You would know. You’re the fakest of them all. There’s no way you know anything about what’s going on with any of us in our lives because you’re so self-involved.”
She sounded near tears, “You’re just so wrapped up in your delusions of you and Alexander that it’s all you can think about. Tell me one thing going on in my life and I’ll keep looking for the girl I once knew. There’s even a big one that the whole pack knows about.”
Charlene was quiet for several minutes. I heard shuffling feet indicating the others with her were nervous.
Maybe listening to her sage advice. Kristen was obviously the smart one of the bunch.
Kristin snorted, “Exactly. My brother is in the pack hospital. He was hurt on a scouting mission. Thanks for caring so much about me. Bye.”
Charlene yelled, “I’m sorry! I just have a lot in my life going on.
” Kristen called, “Wanting Alexander to be yours and plotting how to bully the Beta’s daughter is not more important than my brother suffering from silver poisoning.
Princess Luna Haley and Alexander are off on missions so they can’t be called to heal him yet. We hope he can hang on.”
She added, “Oh, and do you know who comes every day to read to him and his scouting group? Melanie McAlister. She even sent all the family’s a care package separate from the Luna’s and her mom’s. It was catered to every member of our family.”
“I’ve stood back while you bullied her, and she sent me all of my favorite things and a book she thought I would like.
Hell, I do like it and I bet you can’t name a single thing in that care package.
Like my favorite candy.” Charlene didn’t say anything again.
Kristen shouted, “BITCH! I know every goddamn thing about you.” I heard someone running away now.
I snarled, “You ambushed Melanie?!” Charlene whined in pain.
Oden took over, “My human asked you a question!” She sighed, “Well, that pushing thing hurts a lot!” I growled, “Answer me!” She finally replied, “We ambushed her fairly often. We never won a fight against her though. I just wanted to beat her once then you would know I was worthy.”
I snarled, “You are not worthy to wash her damn socks! She is so far above you it’s crazy. Your friend, Kristin, was right. I attacked Two Peaks with everything I had because they wanted to take Melanie and SHE IS MINE!”
I vowed, “When I meet her that will be clear. Anyone who has hurt her will know my wrath.” I used my pushing power this time not to see anything, but to kill her. Her head exploded. I snapped her body away and took several deep breaths.
Oden snorted, “Welcome to team mate is ours.” I calmed down and answered, “Yes, well we will see.” Oden sighed, “And he’s back to his normal state of being. So close and yet so far. I could almost taste your lack of doubt fading.” I sat down in the corner trying to gather myself.
This proved people were already after Melanie because of me. I needed to protect her better. I just didn’t know how. I’d have to come with something that I could do. I just didn’t know what, because Melanie clearly didn’t tell people when she was ambushed.
To be honest, I couldn’t blame her. She thought those in charge wouldn’t believe her, but she did reach out to me.
For the first time tonight, I texted with Melanie McAlister from Tristan’s phone.
I had to hope she’d text me if she needed help.
I smiled and spoke aloud, “I’ll meet you one day, Melanie McAlister.
I already promised.” It made me feel at ease because a promise was something I couldn’t break.
Flashback Ends
Jason asked, “Hello? Are you still there?” I shook off the past answering, “Yeah, just know your family is invited.” He laughed, “I’ll see you there and I’m excited for you. I know that you were toying with this idea for a while. What decided it for you?”
I replied, “I want my presence here more often to deter people from thinking they can start rumors about my sister without consequences.” He growled, “Someone is trying to hurt Cass?” I replied, “Yes, and her subtle ways aren’t making them back down.”
He chuckled, “And here I was worried for a solid second. You’re as subtle as a two by four to the head.
” I saw Jed walking by. I replied loudly, “I’m more like a mallet to the head than a two by four.
You’ve seen the mess I create when I explode someone’s head.
The damage would be more consistent with a mallet as a weapon. ” Jed slowed his walk and paled.
Jason asked, “And who are we trying to capture the attention of because you almost blew out my ears? I can hear you just fine.” I replied, “Someone who knows exactly what I’m referring to and should probably pass along that information.
” Jed subtly inclined his head. I told Jason, “I’ll see you later. ” He agreed, “Yeah, you will.”
I called my Beta and Gamma on a conference call.
Gage, my Gamma, answered first, “Hey, Alexander. I’m not totally cool with the chain of information dissemination about you today.
Fair warning, Phil is even more so not cool with said chain of information.
” I heard the beep indicating that Phil joined. I snorted, “I’m calling you now.”
Phil snarked, “Oh, now. Now you call me. I’ve known about this development for quite some time. I can understand Cayden and EJ knowing before me. Even your parents but JASON MCALISTER texted to say he was going because you invited him.”
I replied, “Well, I just got off the phone with him so that was fast.” Gage jumped in, “Come on, Phil. We know why he called Jason.” Phil retorted, “And I’ll forgive him if our future Luna shows up.” Gage laughed. I sighed, “You know that…” Oden grumbled, “Here we go.”
Phil interrupted me, “I know that you have your reasons for not wanting to admit what you and Oden know. I even understand them. I just think that they are…” Gage cut in, “Since he won’t say it the way he should I will.”
Phil warned, “Gage.” Gage retorted, “You’re the Beta who waters shit down. That’s your role to guide the Alpha to water. I’m not as subtle.” I asked, “My reasons are what?” Oden warned, “Youa are a glutton for punishment is what you are.”
Gage answered, “Bullshit.” I scoffed, “No, it’s not.
People are…” He jumped in, “You are NOT fucking people. You are Alpha Alexander Marcus Nathan Conners. You are a healer, which makes you more sensitive than any other fucking Alpha out there. You would NOT hurt Melanie McAlister. You’re not capable even if she somehow led a group of our enemies against us, you wouldn’t hurt her. ”
I growled, “She would never do that!” Phil quickly said, “We know that. Hell, everyone knows that. Melanie is good person. It’s just that we know our Alpha.
We believe you and Oden. I understand why you want to meet her.
I know you wouldn’t this way if so many people hadn’t been possessive of her as a pup. ” Oden snarled and it came out.
Gage groaned, “Dude, you’re not like them.
” I reasoned, “I know. I’m more powerful than all of them combined.
” He groaned “Good god. I’m going to find a wall to slam my head into.
” Phil sighed, “Don’t do that. I’ll have to hunt up a partial Fairy to fix it and they are all excited about the parade. ”
I snorted, “Why don’t you guys have Phil portal the both of you here and find someone who wants to fuck you.
” Gage admitted, “That does sound more productive and less hurtful to one of my heads than the wall.” Phil and I busted up laughing.
I added, “Plus, I see my cousin.” I winked at Jeffery who was walking towards me.
Gage asked, “Which one? You have a million.” I answered, “Jeffery is here.” I saw a portal begin to open. Jeffrey laughed, “I was going to surprise my brother when he showed up.” Phil ran through the portal that Gage stepped through.
Phil hugged Jeffrey. He said, “I missed you, big bro.” Jeffrey replied, “I missed you too.” Egres faded in and shot me a look.
I grinned at him and wiggled my eyebrows.
Gage said, “Uhh he does look amused.” Phil snorted, “Because I usually tell him things, but after Jason texted, Alexander called. He’s lower on Alexander’s information wrung than we are. ”
I replied, “He usually knows things before all of us and he doesn’t share.” Egres replied, “I do things for your safety. It would be nice to know that you’re going to come here more often before Blade tells me. Do you know how he tells me things?” Gage answered, “In Latin.”
We all glanced at him, and I busted up laughing.
Egres retorted, “While laughing. He tells me things while laughing.” Gage replied, “Good for him. The guy needs things to laugh about. Think about how hard his job is. You think your job is hard and he’s got Haley to Guard.
” I snorted, “I’m practically the easiest one to guard in my family.
Now, it will be easier because I’ll spend more time here. ”
