Yet, if I was going to spend the rest of my life here, I’d better get used to it.

Slowly, unlinking our hands as she flinched, her eyes met mine before straying away as she wanted to protest but didn’t.

With all the opposition in my heart, I turned on my heel and ran. Ran past the living room, kitchen, library, and all the way down the east wing, where my bedroom lay. I swear the old hag gave me this room just so she didn’t have to see me or take the responsibility if something bad happened.

Well, tonight could have been her lucky night.

Thank the lord of heavens that I reached my door.

Fetching my keys from my pockets, I wrestled with the knob of the door as I struggled to open it. My hands shook, desperation brimming to the top as the pending threat of what I did in the past came back to bite me. The loud thunder collided with the sound of a gun in the wind; blood splattered everywhere. And life had always wanted to get even; after all, an eye for an eye.

A son for a son.

No. No. They could do whatever they wanted to me, but they couldn’t touch him. I wouldn’t let them.

Somehow, some way, the door clicked open as I slipped inside and locked it quickly, making sure no one could get in.

Relief hit my nervous system as I made it back to my room safe and sound.

There’s nothing to be afraid of now.

Breathing heavily as I blindly took a few steps back, bumping into something rough and warm, with a devastating scent of manly musk.

My heart nearly collapsed.

Suddenly, a large callous hand slipped around my mouth, clamping it shut. Preventing me from screaming or calling for help as dread polluted my stomach. “Don’t move, kotyonok. I promise I won’t hurt you if you keep quiet.” His cold voice echoed against my skin.

Oh god, no.

Chapter 2

Blair

Sin followed me everywhere I went.

Even when I reached my hand out and attempted to mend my ways, there was no escaping.

There really was no redemption for sinners. Living alone on the verge of sin and virtue.

Fuck.

I mean, shit.

No dammit.

My breathing became ragged and uncontrolled. Fear encased down into my bones. The wet, slippery dress tightened against my breasts, and it felt like I could die from suffocation. The thunder that crashed in the distance didn’t help.

“Cat got your tongue, kotyonok?” His voice inclined, he held a sinister smile. “What a shame. We were having so much fun earlier.”

Earlier?

Wait, was he—

The images of the mysterious man wandering in the shadows in that cell while playing mind games with me earlier flashed in my mind.

There was no way. It couldn’t be him. Could it be?

“Don’t tell me you forgot about me?” His warm lips caressed the outside shell of my ear as his intrusive hands roamed my waist and stomach, stopping right above my— nevermind— but the most perturbing part was the steel gun held against my jaw. “Because I haven’t forgotten about you, Blair.” He buried his nose in my hair and inhaled my strawberry shampoo scent. “Not a single thing.”
