Page 88 of HER SISTER
I watched Mili precisely as soon as the blonde girl stopped in front of her.
And it wasn't hard to miss the subtle recognition that crossed my girlfriend's features.
Mili nodded a few times, clearly listening to whatever Lana was saying—whose face I couldn't quite see.
All I could see was the back of her blonde hair which was pulled back into a thick long braid.
Even still, I knew Lana was probably overjoyed to even speak one word to my girlfriend.
I drew in a deep breath as soon as a small smile grew on my girlfriend's lips—and it was enough to subtly flash her grill.
Which meant she was smiling too much if you ask me.
Just as I began contemplating walking over to them, Mili's dark eyes glanced over to our table, right as Lana turned around.
I turned my head back to Mya and Ryder who were now talking about the cocktail menu and what they wanted to try.
Meanwhile, I could only anticipate when Lana and Mili would inevitably make it to our table.
"Luckily, I already grabbed a flute for you," I could hear Lana's annoying soft voice.
I'm now regretting not leaving when I had the chance.
"Thanks... you know if my girlfriend's somewhere, I'm there too," I heard Mili say, easily cooling some of my wound-up nerves.
I looked over when Mili suddenly pulled the seat out beside me to sit down, and even if she looked better closer up and her sweet cologne managed to send me into a frenzy—I still couldn't help but feel irritated with her currently.
"Hey M," Mya greeted as Ryder reached over the table to give Mili a quick dap up followed by a brief hey.
Meanwhile, I'm still wondering why my girlfriend had even smiled during her conversation with the blonde
I don't care if Lana threw a bag of a million dollars at her—she still better not smile at her
"I'll be back to get your orders when you're ready," Lana said to us all—even if her blue eyes were subtly glancing over to my girlfriend.
Maybe today is the day that I really throw hands.
It's been a good fight so far with keeping my composure, but I don't know if I'm going to make it through this one.
Mili draped her arm over my shoulders, "I missed you," she said, gently pressing a kiss to the side of my neck that she leaned into, "Mm you smell good," she murmured.
And as she pulled away, I couldn't miss the way her dark eyes trailed my appearance.
"You look good too," she added as she suddenly met my eyes.
Meanwhile, I could only look completely unamused as I brought my mimosa glass to my lips.
"You knew the waitress?" I subtly questioned, lowering my tone so we could have our own private conversation while Mya and Ryder continued to choose between drinks.
Mili briefly looked between my eyes, "Yeah," she said, suddenly reaching out to grab her prepared mimosa.
I hummed, "Where do you know her from?" I purposefully asked her.
Mili briefly swallowed the sip she had just taken, allowing her dark stare to drift over to the ice bucket that held the bottle of champagne and orange juice, "She's.
.. an old acquaintance," she hesitantly explained as she grabbed the bottle of champagne, obviously ignoring my burning stare, "Do you think these need a little more champagne? " she questioned.
And even I knew she was trying to change the topic.
Which seemed to work when Mya said, "That's what I was thinking too."
I drew in a deep breath, determining that Mili had just casually breezed by the fact that our waitress was someone she had hooked up with.
And who even knows if that was a one-time thing or if they did it more in the past?
They seem a little too cool for it to be a one-time thing.
"Lana needs to get it together," Mili said as she unwrapped her arm from my shoulder to pour more of the champagne into her flute.
And almost immediately, I caught Mya's stare, who seemed to automatically pick up on my growing irritation.
Which was now spiraling deeper.
Mya suddenly waved over a nearby waiter, "What can I help you with?" the guy asked, flashing us all a friendly white smile.
"We would like a new waitress or waiter if you don't mind?" Mya asked the man, which easily earned a confused look from both Mili and Ryder.
I really don't know why she looks so fucking confused right now.
The man didn't hesitate to nod, "Of course girl—how about I take over your table? I make really good cocktails," he said, and after hearing his tone I could easily pinpoint that he was gay.
He's exactly who we needed.
Mya nodded happily, "Oh then we definitely need you—we couldn't decide between..."
I tuned them out as I suddenly stood from my chair, easily earning Mili's attention.
"Where are you going?" Mili questioned as I smoothed down my white dress.
"Bathroom. I won't be long," I said, and it was very obvious how short I was being with her.
Mya suddenly looked over to me, "We're thinking about trying the mango daiquiri—did you want one?" she asked.
I nodded, "Yeah, order me one please," I said before turning on my heel to venture off to the bathroom.
And as soon as I seemingly made it into the empty bright bathroom, I inhaled a deep breath.
My warm palms rested on the light wood sink as I held my own eyes in the mirror.
Maybe I had too many sips of my mimosa, or maybe I just witnessed my girlfriend being too friendly with a previous hook-up—but either way, it had me spiraling.
I looked over when the bathroom door suddenly opened—and as soon as Mili walked in, my thoughts managed to spiral even more.
And before I could even begin to stop myself, I was saying—
"You lied."
Mili stopped in front of me with a tilted look, "I couldn't exactly say she was a past hook-up over brunch, Atiana," she pointed out.
I gave her a narrowed look, "Why not? Your sister could," I countered back.
Mili only sighed, "It didn't seem like something to just say. You know I don't like discussing serious topics with you so publicly."
I crossed my arms over my chest, easily causing Mili's eyes to briefly divert to my chest before meeting my eyes.
Almost immediately, I scolded the warmth that her actions sent through me.
"What did you talk about with her?" I asked, knowing that I had wondered what their conversation had consisted of.
Mili tilted her head, "We just exchanged casual hey's and then I mentioned you—"
"And that's when you smiled?" I suddenly cut her short.
An amused smile suddenly grew on Mili's lips, "Is that why you're upset baby?" she questioned as she reached out for me.
But I only took a step back, and just like that, Mili looked offended.
"No, I'm upset because you just lied to me about who she really was—I mean, how many other past hook-ups have we run into that you lied to me about?" I questioned.
Mili's lips parted, blinking a few times to herself, "Are we really doing this right now?" she questioned, leaning back against the sink with her arms crossed over her chest.
"Doing what? Finally talking about your past?" I said, my tone smart and lowered.
Mili drew in a deep breath as her eyes carefully held mine, "Is that what you want? Because we can discuss it once we get home, I swear."
I only shook my head, clearly not feeling satisfied with her solution.
Mili suddenly corrected her posture, noticing that my irritation was still present, "Look, I'm sorry. If you're uncomfortable, we can leave—"
"No, we're not leaving, Milan," I said, easily causing my girlfriend's brows to furrow slightly, "If we leave now then it seems like I made you or something," I explained, hating even the idea of giving Lana that satisfaction.
Mili nodded a few times, "Okay, then what do you want? What can I do to make you feel comfortable?" she asked me, suddenly taking a closer step towards me.
I let out a deep stressful breath, "I don't know, I just—" I took a step back from my girlfriend, who was clearly trying to touch me, "—I'm too irritated right now. I just need a minute."
And I kind of felt bad because I knew Mili's love language was touching me—and that in her own way, it was her way of trying to soothe me.
Mili nodded slowly, "Okay..."
She trailed off when the bathroom door suddenly opened—
And in walked the girl of the fucking hour.
Lana.
There goes my composure.
