Page 103 of HER SISTER

The remainder of spring break with Mya seemed to fly by so quickly, I seemed to get whiplash.

I had managed to show her the island and introduce her to my parents and godmothers.

We also bar-hopped at a few of the beach bars nearby too.

What I loved the most was how easily Mya and I fell into a routine here.

From waking up early to catch the sunrise—to laying out on the beach and catching up on sleep, and then later walking around the island to find lunch before getting ready for dinner.

After dinner, we would go out and seemingly not get back home until at least one in the morning.

"You saw that right—" Mya smiled as she chewed on the grape that she had managed to catch in her mouth, "—That was five back to back."

I laughed as I sat beside her at the kitchen island, "Yes I saw that," I said as I cut into my pancakes, which my mom had made us before she and my dad left for their errands.

Mya hummed happily, "Good because I need someone to vouch for me when I brag about it later," she said as her phone began ringing with a FaceTime call from Ryder.

"Take it," I told Mya as soon as she looked at me, clearly about to ask if it was cool to take the call.

She hadn't really talked to Ryder since we were on a girl's trip, but they had been texting.

Mya shot me a smile as she slid her thumb across the screen to answer the FaceTime call.

"Hiiii," Mya gushed as Ryder's face appeared on the screen.

Ryder smiled, "Hi My—what's going on? How's your morning so far?"

Mya's smile grew, "Good, me and Ana are eating pancakes and fruit—and I think we're heading back out to the beach later," she said, nudging my arm when I managed to draw fake hearts in the air.

Ryder laid back in what looked to be a beach chair, "That sounds fun—the sunrise you sent me earlier looked insane," he said as he took a drink from someone's extended hand.

Mya hummed happily, "It was, wasn't it?" she said as she cut into the pancakes we were sharing, "How's everything in Tulum?"

Ryder's smile grew, "So good, Mi's friends are really cool," he said as he sipped his mixed drink.

And his statement alone managed to catch my attention—and I couldn't help but wonder what her friends were like.

I had never met them before, and I couldn't help but wonder why.

I guess we hadn't been dating for long enough at the time—

But at the same time, it felt like I'd known her for a while.

Even if we only started dating in December, I had still known her since August.

So why had she never introduced me to her friends?

Or even mention them?

It was odd, I guess I always assumed Mili and Mya shared our friend group.

But in reality, Mili was two years older than Mya and she's also been traveling around the world.

So clearly, she had her own set of friends, which seemed to include Ryder now.

"Ana you've got to stop zoning out," Mya suddenly said as she sat her phone down.

And I couldn't help but snap away from my thoughts, suddenly realizing that she had finished her call with Ryder.

I forced a laugh, but failed miserably, "Sorry," I said as I sat my fork down, clearly not feeling hungry anymore.

Mya tilted her head at me, "Did I miss something?" she asked, clearly confused by my demeanor shift.

I sighed slightly, clearly wanting to not say anything about my rampant thoughts, but at the same time—that was something I was working on.

Just saying what I was thinking or feeling without feeling like I'm over-exposed or possibly burdening someone.

"I just... I didn't realize Mili had friends," I said, and hearing it out loud, I swear it sounded stupid.

I mean, of course, she has friends.

"Or what I mean is—she never mentioned her friends to me," I quickly corrected myself.

Mya pursed her lips, "I'm not sure why she never mentioned them to you," she said honestly, and before I could really process her words she managed to add, "Maybe it's because they travel a lot? They're rarely in LA since they're constantly off on projects."

I couldn't help but tilt my head, "Projects?" I asked, clearly curious about what that entailed.

"Yeah, Jeremiah travels for photography, and Shanti and Akio travel for fashion," Mya explained, taking a brief sip of her water before she said, "From what Mi told me, they would all link up in the same cities together."

I couldn't help but smile at how fun that sounded.

Imagine roaming the streets of Singapore or Brazil—or even London with your friends.

Those were some of the places that I remember Mili had mentioned visiting, and I could already imagine how happy she was with all her friends by her side.

Suddenly, it felt like she had a whole other side to her that I had yet to discover.

"Honestly, Ana, I don't think she's been purposefully keeping you from her friends," Mya suddenly said as she sat her glass of water down, clearly noticing my silence.

"Yeah, I just... I don't know, I guess I expected her to at least mention them—or maybe introduce me over the phone?" I said, clearly analyzing everything as a whole.

Mya suddenly laughed, "Yeah-no, it's almost impossible to get them all on the phone at once, especially because of time zones," she said.

I nodded to myself, realizing that Mya had made a good point.

Maybe it really wasn't purposeful.

"If I'm being real with you right now—I really couldn't imagine my sister actually sitting down and deciding to keep you away from her friends, especially after you met our parents," Mya said as she resumed cutting into the large stack of pancakes.

I couldn't help but feel slightly relieved, remembering that I had met Mili's parents.

Sometimes it was hard to not group her in with Mya and see them astheir parents instead.

Maybe it's because when I met them, I was technically Mya's friend and not Mili's girlfriend, so it never really felt formal.

"Yeah, you're totally right," I said, suddenly feeling like I was definitely overthinking it.

I'm really glad I said something to Mya versus just battling my own thoughts.

Mya hummed, "Oh I know I am—Mi's never introduced any other girls to our parents, so that should mean something within itself," she said as she took another bite of pancakes.

I felt a small smile grow on my face, knowing that it felt good to be the only one she had ever introduced to them.

I suddenly picked my fork back up, feeling somewhat content with my thoughts again.

"I was thinking we go surfing today," I said as Mya chewed on her pancakes.

My best friend tilted her head, "You know good and well that I don't surf," she said, and I couldn't help but chuckle slightly.

"Yeah, but I was thinking I'd teach you," I said, feeling my amusement grow when Mya side-eyed me.

"Is this an attempt to murder me so Mili can finally have you to herself?" Mya asked.

I couldn't help but laugh again, "Of course not," I said, allowing more amused chuckles to fall from my lips before I managed to say, "Come onnn it'll be fun, I swear."

Mya looked at me with a look of pure seriousness for a few moments—

Before suddenly sighing to herself and saying, "Fine, but you owe me a Strawberry daiquiri after," she said, and I couldn't help but clap happily to myself.

"It's a deal," I said as I reached out to pull her into a side hug that she easily reciprocated.

Soon, we were finishing up breakfast before getting changed and heading down to the soft sandy beach with sparkling turquoise water.

Luckily, it wasn't overly crowded, so Mya wouldn't feel awkward learning something new in front of so many people.

"Mya focus up," I said, noticing Mya looking around for what felt like the hundredth time.

Mya only continued looking, "But I have to keep an eye out for Selener," she said, clearly referring to Kiara.

And while she was entirely serious, I couldn't help but burst out into laughter.

"I fucking can't with you right now," I laughed as I shook my head at her.

Mya only shrugged with a smile growing on her lips, "Kiara is about to get whooped with a flip-flop if she even thinks about taking a step near you on god," she said, easily making me laugh even more.

"I'm beginning to think Mili put you up to this," I said between breathless laughs.

Mya's eyes lit up, "No but I should really charge for that," she determined with a look of realization.

And just like that, my laughter doubled, "I seriously cannot with you right now," I said as I tried to force my laughter away, but Mya was just too fucking funny right now.

"What? You know she'd definitely go for it," Mya said as I shook my head at her.

And lowkey, I could definitely see Mili going for something like that, which seemingly made this all funnier.

"Just get on your board," I laughed as I motioned to the surfboard beside me.

And just like that, we were back to surf lessons, which luckily never got interrupted by Kiara or anyone else for that matter.

Honestly, even if Kiara did manage to come over, I wouldn't be openly sparing the details of Mili and I's break.

Mostly because it's not her business, but also because I don't want to give her the idea that I'm open to anyone else other than Mili.

"Yes! Oh my god Mya you did it!" I cheered happily from the shoreline as Mya officially surfed her first wave.

Mya fist-pumped the air before doing her own little happy dance in the water.

And I couldn't help but run out into the water to join in on her dance before tackling her into a hug.

This seriously had to be my best spring break yet.

I couldn't even imagine how much better it would be next year with Mili back by my side.
