Page 41 of HER SISTER

"Oh my god, Ana—are you okay?" Mya called out as I slowly sat up from the cold snowy ground.

I nodded a few times, even if my head was practically pounding—and my body felt like it was buzzing with pain.

"Totally okay," I forced out as I stumbled up to my feet.

Mya practically ran to take my side, "We were stupid, this was so fucking stupid—do you need to go to the hospital? What hurts?" she questioned frantically.

"I'm okay—I think I just need to lay down for a moment," I assured her.

Willow shook her head, "See, I knew it was reckless," she pointed out.

Damon shook his head, "Okay miss law major—don't bring out Judge Judy on us."

Arielle muffled her laughter with her hand, "Babe it wouldn't be judge Judy if she's a lawyer," she corrected him, and I couldn't help but laugh slightly.

Which easily caused everyone else to laugh along with me—until suddenly we were all breaking out into a full-on laughing fit.

"You guys are really stupid," I said as I let out one last laugh.

Mya shook her head as her laughter died down, "I think we concluded that from the start—" she suddenly analyzed my face, "—You look a little red, maybe we should head back."

"You think?" Willow retorted.

Cam only shook her head with another laugh, "I swear I was blessed into the best friend group ever."

"Yeah, no one will ever compare to us," Frankie laughed out.

"So true," Marco said, which easily earned nods and more laughs from all of us as we headed back toward the house.

And as soon as I made it into the toasty warm cabin, I let out a deep relieved breath.

The warm air alone was enough to send goosebumps down my cold aching body.

My brows suddenly furrowed when I smelt a whiff of something sweet.

"Guys..." Ryder trailed off in excitement, "Mili's making her famous hot chocolate," he suddenly said as we all walked further into the house.

And just as Ryder had predicted, Mili was standing over by the stove in black joggers and a white tee with her curly hair pulled up into a bun.

Something warm shot through my body at the sight of her—or maybe it was just her presence.

She just felt so familiar—all I wanted to do was hug her, especially after practically tumbling down a tall hill.

Mili turned around "Finally—" she suddenly cut herself short when she caught a glimpse of us all, well except for me, "Damn what kind of sledding did you guys do?"

Willow shook her head as she grabbed us all mugs for the homemade hot chocolate, "More like sledding that your sister and Damon conned us into—they had us all on one sled going down a big ass hill," she said, shaking her head to herself.

Mili suddenly crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned back against the counter, "What?" she questioned, clearly wanting to hear more details.

Willow let out a sigh as she placed the last mug down, "Yeah, poor Ana—she fell off halfway through and hit a tree."

And just like that, Mili leaned away from the counter, suddenly standing up fully.

A part of me wanted to assume it was because I had been mentioned, but the other part knew that the assumption was a little self-centered.

"What the fuck, Mya," Mili said, suddenly walking over to her sister.

Mya gave Mili a defensive look, "We're all fine—"

"But you could've gotten hurt—or maybe even fucking worse," Mili cut her short, and I swear I had never heard her voice so tight before.

And apparently, neither had anyone else—especially with the way everyone's brows were raised in surprise.

Yet, Arielle only managed to glance over to me, easily making my brows furrow.

But before I could question why Arielle looked over to me, Damon was suddenly backing away from the kitchen, "Yeah, so um..." he trailed off slightly, "I'm just gonna go uh shower," he said, clearly trying to get out of this awkward conversation.

Arielle followed behind him, "Yeah... I have to get everything ready for tomorrow," she quickly said.

Ryder pursed his lips, "That's a good point, I have a lot of stuff I need to pack for tomorrow's trip back," he said.

Willow nodded a few times, "That's a really good point—right Marco?"

Marco didn't hesitate to nod, "Excellent point," he said in agreement as he followed them all up the stairs.

Cam suddenly took a step toward Mya and Mili who seemed to be having a silent stare off, "Look, Mya's intentions weren't to hurt anyone, it was just for—"

"Go upstairs, Cameron," Mili suddenly cut her short, and it was obvious that she was low on patience.

Cam pursed her lips when Mya suddenly gave her a softened look, before motioning her away, and it was obvious that Mya was grateful for Cam's gesture.

Soon Cam was upstairs with everyone else, which easily left me, Mya, and Mili.

And when I tried to respectfully back away, Mya suddenly, shook her head, "No, don't go—you're clearly fine, and I'm proving that point," she said, easily causing me to halt my steps.

Meanwhile, Mili only managed to shake her head at her sister, still not bothering to meet my stare.

Well, this is awkward.

"Look Ana's okay—we're all okay. It was just stupid fun, Mili, really," Mya tried to convince her.

Mili hummed in irritation as she looked away from her sister, "That's not the point Mya."

"Then what is the fucking point?" Mya said, and I could easily hear the irritation coating her voice.

Safe to say that I've never seen either of them this angry before.

"The fucking point is that someone hit a tree—you guys could've gotten injured or worse. What is there to not get?" Mili said, and it was hard to miss the slow tone that she had taken with Mya—basically talking to her like she was a toddler.

Mya scoffed, "Don't talk to me like I'm illiterate, Milan—you're legit tripping right now for no reason," she argued back.

Mili let out a cold laugh, "Wow, okay, I'm tripping, yet you're the one putting lives in danger—that makes complete sense right now," she retorted.

"Says the one who does stupid shit all the time," Mya said, allowing her tone to grow louder.

Mili only shook her head, "I don't do stupid shit like this and you know that," she pointed out, and even if her anger was clearly oozing off of her, she still somehow managed to keep her voice at the same calm volume.

"Yeah, well I think fucking everyone you encounter is pretty fucking close!" Mya said, clearly trying to argue whatever point she could make.

Maybe I should head upst—

"What fucking relevancy does that even have right now Mya?" Mili carefully questioned, easily earning an irritated sigh from Mya.

And before anyone could say anything else, a voice suddenly said, "Woah, what's going on in here?"

Just like that, we all looked over to Akeyla and Terrance, who had grocery bags in their hands.

Mili suddenly rubbed her temples, "I need a fucking blunt right now," she said, walking past Mya to head upstairs.

I blinked a few times, looking between Mya and her confused parents.

Mya suddenly looked over to me, and by her glossy eyes, I knew that she was really upset.

"She's right—much worse really could've happened," Mya forced out, shaking her head to herself, "I hate that she's always fucking right."

I suddenly pulled Mya into a hug, hating that she was so upset over this—along with Mili who seemed to be really mad over the events.

"Accidents happen, Mya—it's not that big of a deal," I assured her.

Mya only shook her head, "No, but it could've been worse—" she suddenly sniffled, "—And-and I just yelled at Mili for no reason."

I shook my head, "Mya it's okay—I'm sure she'll move past it by tomorrow," I said, knowing that Mili was typically chill about certain things.

Mya only cried harder, "I don't know, she was really mad—I've never seen her so mad before," she forced out.

Akeyla suddenly joined in on our hug, "Mi will move past it because you guys are sisters and sisters fight, but they also make up, okay?" she said, and I couldn't miss the motherly tone she had taken with Mya, which seemingly made her cry harder.

"What all led to this, Mya Bear?" Terrance suddenly chimed in as he put up the last of the groceries.

Mya suddenly pulled back from our group hug as she looked between her parents, "I-we all sledded down the mountain on one sled and Ana fell off and hit a tree—"

"Oh my, are you okay?" Akeyla suddenly asked as she took a step toward me to analyze my face.

I nodded a few times, "I'm good—I'm okay, really," I said, knowing it wasn't that big of a deal.

Akeyla nodded hesitantly, "Okay, how about I get you set up with a heated blanket for tonight? I know your body must hurt?" she questioned.

I nodded almost immediately at the idea, "Yeah, that actually sounds really nice."

Terrance opened one of the kitchen cabinets, "We also have Ibuprofen for the pain," he offered, easily earning a few nods from me.

"Yeah, that would be really nice too," I said, easily causing him to take the pill bottle out.

Akeyla shook her head to herself, "I'm confused, why was Mi so upset?" she said, and it was clear that even she was surprised by how angry Mili was.

Mya stressfully ran her hands through her dark hair, "I don't know—I think she was just mad about how dangerous it was, maybe because Ana had hit a tree? I don't know," she sighed as she wiped away her stray tears.

Akeyla tilted her head slightly as she suddenly looked at me, and it was obvious that she was in deep thought.

But after a few beats, she managed to look away from me and say, "Okay... well how about you both go upstairs and shower and we'll get lunch started," she suggested.

Mya nodded, "Yeah, okay," she forced out as Terrance handed me two of the white Ibuprofen pills.

Akeyla gave Mya a brief kiss on her forehead before gently rubbing my arm, "I recommend taking a hot bath to help with any pain," she told me.

I nodded graciously, "That's a good idea—thank you both," I said as Mya and I backed away toward the stairs.

Akeyla only shook her head, "You don't have to thank us, Ana," she insisted, which earned a nod of agreement from Terrance.

I flashed them both a grateful smile before I inevitably turned on my heel with Mya as we began going up the stairs.

Yet, all I could think about was the heated fight that just broke out in front of me.
