Page 90 of Ruthless Chaos
I can’t see her face, but she has long, straight, blond hair—a Hemlock girl. My lips twist into a smirk. He’s finally heeded my warning about Allie.
He made the right choice.
The girl moves languidly in his grip, almost like a puppet. He picks her up, and she struggles against him.
She’s probably off the pills, and he’s taking advantage of that.
I watch them with narrowed eyes. Though we don’t have rules against that sort of thing here, I’m not going to stand around and let Keller rape a girl who can’t even think straight.
There’s something familiar about her too, but I can’t put my finger on it.
I start moving towards them just as he’s dragging her away.
She’s dressed in a skimpy cream dress that hugs her hips. Come think of it, even in this bad lighting, her skin—it’s rich and coppery—looks a lot like Allie’s.
When he’s almost in the corridor nearby, the girl’s head flops back.
My chest tightens and the water bottle falls from my grip.
ItisAllie.
I bolt in their direction, shoving bodies out of my way. Just as I make it to the passageway, I see a door to one of the bathrooms close.
Everything falls away.
I’m moving purely off instinct.
I must be wrong.
There’s no way Keller’s drugged my girl and locked himself in the bathroom with her. Maybe I’m too tired and hallucinating.
Every bit of my blood is white hot.
I welcome the rage, letting it take me over.
I warned that motherfucker.
The door handle doesn’t budge.
I back away from the door and kick the hinges. I don’t have time to go upstairs for my gun. It’s a heavy oak door that’s been here for at least a hundred years.
I keep striking it, harder each time.
The brass hinges rattle and start to come undone.
“Open the door, Keller!” I roar, throwing myself against the door. Pain explodes through my shoulder, but it only urges me on.
I don’t hear a response. My throat is thick.
He’s probably forcing himself on her. She’s drugged and too weak to stop him.
Allie needs me. I have to save her.
I take a deep breath before launching myself at the door with all my strength. My hours in the gym pay off—the wood splinters with a wail, and the hinges break away from the door jamb.
I tear the door away.
I’m stuck in a nightmare. There’s blood rushing in my ears. My heart is beating so fast my chest hurts.
