To happy endings. Wherever we may find them.
Nathan was nervous. Nathan was never nervous. He had faced every terrible threat imaginable and even saved the world. There should be nothing left that could worry him, nothing that could fill him with fear.
This did.
It was no special day. They’d been home for a couple of nights now after a hunt, settled into the Gatehouse enjoying some down time before their next mission.
The Gatehouse was always bustling these days, always full with seals and fae and the occasional member of the Sex Squad.
For the most part, everyone got along too.
Nathan had only broken up a few fights—Alex a few more—and usually they were within the same groups.
Usually, seals who’d had too much to drink.
It was a normal night. They’d had dinner as a family—their whole extended family—and it wasn’t too late, yet still late enough that if Nathan whisked Sasha away to their bedroom, no one would bat an eye. But his purpose was different this time. More or less.
It had been a good day. About a month shy of being three years since Nathan and Sasha had first gotten together. Sometimes it felt like so much less than that. Other times it felt longer.
Nathan never wanted it to end.
No, it was no special day…other than the day Nathan Grier had decided to give himself to his incubus forever.
“Hey, baby?” Nathan said as he peeked into the downstairs lounge, where Sasha was on the sofa reading. Nathan leaned against the doorframe with a telling quirk of a brow.
“Duty calls?” Sasha asked with a smirk.
“If you’re not too busy.” Nathan smirked right back.
Sasha rose from the sofa and set his book aside to be picked up later. “Never too busy for you.”
They walked casually in the direction of their bedroom, though Nathan could admit he was only feigning being casual. He could feel his pulse in his temples.
“Nathan? Are you okay? You seem really nervous.”
Sometimes Nathan hated that Sasha could read his emotions. But then he never had to worry about getting into the habit of lying. If only every couple was forced into similar transparency; there would probably be a much lower divorce rate.
Nathan took a deep breath. “I just have something I wanna tell you. Something good ,” he added quickly, so Sasha wouldn’t fear this was one of those ‘we need to talk’ discussions, and tried not to trip his way up the stairs as he quickened his pace.
“I’ve just been hyping myself up over it, I guess, and I’m still not sure…
I mean, I’m absolutely, 100% sure, but that’s why it’s so damn—”
“Nathan,” Sasha stopped him just at the top of the stairs, concern filling his pale, handsome features.
“You know you can tell me anything, and if it’s something good…
what is there to worry about?” As Sasha’s usual loving smile overtook his worry, Nathan melted like always and could have kicked himself for feeling anxious. It was just such a big decision.
Sure, they already wore rings—Nathan Deklin Kelly’s wedding ring from Sasha, and Sasha Nathan’s father’s ring that he had worn around his neck for so many years—but this…this was a different beast altogether.
Sasha led the way into the bedroom, allowing Nathan his space and some time to catch his breath. He knew he was being silly and followed after only a brief moment to calm his nerves. He shut and locked the door behind him, which caused Sasha to turn around with a scrunched brow.
“I think we’ll want some extra privacy tonight,” Nathan said. He was being silly, he was nervous, but he flashed Sasha a wicked, hungry stare.
“ Nathan ,” Sasha pressed, standing firm just off the foot of the bed and crossing his arms, “what is it? Why do I feel like I’m about to be ambushed? If it was December, I’d expect everyone to tumble out of the bathroom and yell surprise.”
Nathan chuckled. He made his way toward Sasha with a shake of his head, grabbed Sasha’s crossed arms, and rubbed up and down them in reassurance.
When he stopped, he gave them a firm squeeze.
“I’m ready, baby. I love you. You know that.
You feel that. I’m not getting any younger, and there are always dangers out there.
I’m ready. If you want me…it’s time we made this more official than a couple pieces of jewelry, doncha think? ”
The scrunch to Sasha’s brow smoothed out quickly when he realized what Nathan meant. His eyes brightened. “Nathan…?”
“All we have to do is both want it, right?”
“Yeah…”
“I don’t think that should be a problem then. Do you?”
Nathan slid his hands up to grab either side of Sasha’s face as Sasha’s arms dropped to his sides. Sasha reached forward, gripping Nathan’s waist, and they came together like a gravitational pull.
Sasha’s lips met Nathan’s and opened with eager excitement, tasting him with a daring tongue.
The smooth, velvet warmth, the softness of Sasha’s skin against Nathan’s face, were easy to lose himself in.
He’d often wondered if it was taking more effort to keep from turning each time they were together now rather than any effort it would take tonight to give in.
“Does anyone else know about this?” Sasha asked breathlessly, turning them so Nathan’s back was to the bed.
“Nope. Figured this was just for us.”
“How do you want to play this?”
“I know exactly how we’re gonna play this.
” Nathan ran his hands firmly down Sasha’s chest. “We’re gonna take our time.
Enjoy ourselves. Then, once we’re ready, we’re gonna go downstairs like nothin’ happened.
I’ll let my eyes go red, let my fangs peek out, and you’ll say…
” He grinned, bobbing his eyebrows slightly because he knew Sasha would know exactly how to finish.
“Hey, Nathan…” Sasha started off just as teasing and adorable as Nathan imagined he’d sound downstairs.
He pushed Nathan onto the bed and climbed right after him, nipping at Nathan’s lips, all sex and pleasant weight atop him with the wafting of his forever-perfect Sasha scent. “Your incubus is showing.”
And within an hour from now, it would be.
Forever.
