Page 38 of June: When Gangstas Collide
The sound of my phone vibrating woke me up. Bishop had fallen asleep, and London lay on the foot of the bed, snoring louder than his ass. The constant sound of my phone vibrating against the cabin floor made me slowly ease out of bed.
I rushed out of the room where I spotted my phone, near the door. I picked it up to see who was calling, and when I saw her name pop up, I answered. “Zaria?”
Her sniffles and sobs broke my heart because I could only imagine why she was crying.
“Yes, Indigo, it’s me. Um, I-I—”
I didn’t want her to be stressed.
“Zaria, where are you?”
“I don’t know, I’m driving and I’m losing my mind.”
“Wherever you are, just park and send me your location. I’m on my way.”
She was sobbing badly and it sent me into a panic. I didn’t want to get off the phone with her, but my goal was to get to her fast. We hung up, and I waited until I saw her location appear in the text messages. I picked up my dress and slid it on.
“Bishop!” I yelled.
Moving quickly to the room, I poked my head inside.
“Bishop! Wake up!”
His body shot up as he looked around, confused.
“What? You ok?”
“Yes. We have to go now!”
“Indigo, what the fuck?”
“Bishop, please,” I begged.
He got up from the bed, moving as slow as a fucking turtle. I rushed over to the drawers and pulled out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt.
“Hurry up. Someone needs my help.”
I was afraid to tell him it was Zaria because of his issue with Clark. He started to move quicker. Once he was dressed, he called London, and she followed behind him as we rushed out the door and got into the car. I began to direct him as we headed back into the city. The thirty-minute drive felt like forever, but I was concerned about Zaria and her baby.
When Bishop finally reached the location, I spotted her car. I went to get out, and he pulled me back inside.
“Indigo, you give a nigga some pussy and now you got me out here in the middle of the night with this nigga’s girl?”
I leaned forward and kissed him.
“She’s pregnant and she needs my help. If you want to be mad about it, I will take the backlash, but right now, I’m going to be there for her just like she would for me. You and Clark are the ones with the problem, not us,”
I finished as I got out of the car and headed to Zaria’s car.
I walked around to the passenger side and tapped the window. She unlocked the door, and I got in. Zaria was a mess.
“What happened?”
“June and I,”
she huffed.
“We- me and I left him,”
she sobbed.
“My husband. I left him.”
I reached out, pulling her in, “Oh Zaria. I’m sorry, sweetie,”
I said while I rubbed her back.
I knew my brother had a rough night with our grandparents, and he had probably taken that shit back home.
“Zaria, I need you to calm down and listen to me. He was probably stressed. The dinner wasn’t welcoming to him,”
I tried to explain.
She wiped her tears.
“No, these are things that have been brewing for a while. I need to get myself a room so I can think.”
I wanted to be all in their business, but it wasn’t my place. My head lifted as I glanced over at Bishop through the front window.
“You know what, hold on,”
I told her.
I got out and walked over to Bishop’s car. He rolled the window down.
“What’s wrong. She a’ight?”
“No, she’s not. I need a favor.”
“Ah shit, man, my house is—”
“Bishop, stop please!”
I shouted.
“I want you to let her stay in one of your condos in Lexington Heights.”
He stared at me, then at Zaria’s car.
“Fine, come on, is she following us?”
“Let me see.”
I walked back to Zaria’s car, “Come on, I have a place you can go. Do you want to drive or ride?”
She wiped her tears and nodded.
“ I will follow you,”
She mumbled.
I got out of the car and got back in the car with Bishop. I looked at him as he looked at me, “Thank you.”
When he drove off, I sat back in the seat. I knew this was another thing added to my list of things that Bishop was doing for me. He would forever have a piece of my heart, but I knew he needed a better woman than myself.
