Page 22 of June: When Gangstas Collide
The sun had gone down, and Diamond asked if I could go and check on the lounge since Yana had just gotten home with the baby. Instead of rolling out by myself, I decided to see if Foe wanted to slide with me. I walked over to his house and knocked on the door. It took no time for someone to answer. Harvey smiled widely, “Hey, Preach.”
“Sup, girl, where’s Mighty Mouse?”
I could smell the weed, so I knew it was near.
“Son of a Preacher Man. What’s good?”
he said as Harvey stepped back to him, sitting on the couch.
“Come ride with me,”
I told him.
He got up from the couch and came toward the door, grabbing his keys and helmet. He kissed Harvey and told her he loved her before coming outside. It was nice to see him and Harvey working out after that shit with Zeus. I was truly happy for all my niggas finding love. It’s crazy how I was the first one to bag a shorty and now I’m the only one without a girl. I jogged over to my crib, hopped on my bike and backed out the driveway. Foe rode into the street and waited for me. Once I was in the street, we took off.
“Where are we going?”
Foe asked.
“Diamond’s.”
When we hit the corner for a second, I thought I saw Chevy’s grandfather, but I couldn’t tell for sure. We continued to ride until we reached downtown. I couldn’t lie, the nightlife downtown in the Cove was nice. Diamond selecting this location for his lounge was perfect. It’s where everyone came to live it up. When we reached Diamonds, there was a line out the door to get in. Foe and I stared at each other because if Diamond held big events, he would always be here.
“Fuck, going on in here?”
Foe asked.
I shrugged. We had walked up to the door where security was, “Why is it so packed in here?”
I asked security.
“It’s reggae night, it’s always like this.”
Foe poked his head inside before he walked past security to enter the building with me behind him. Reggae night was lit. The smell of hookah filled the air as bodies slow grind on each other. My eyes scanned the room and landed on a group of women. When she flipped her hair back and I saw her face, I knew it was a reason I had. Again, my God knew what he was doing. Sage sat in the back along with her friends. She wore a long black skirt and a tight crop top that clung to her body for dear life. I had almost forgotten I had come with Foe when he came and stood in front of me.
“Nigga what you looking at?”
I pulled my eyes away and glanced at him.
“What’s up?”
Foe pulled the blunt from his ear and lit it.
“I’m about to check the back. You good up here?”
I glanced back at Sage, “Yeah.”
She laughed, taking a sip of her drink, then her eyes landed on me. I could tell she was surprised. She tried fixing her top, but I wasn’t here to judge her. I couldn’t be a judge to someone when I still had flaws. She stood from the couch, and all I could do was drop my head. “My lord,”
I mumbled.
Sage looked good. Too damn good. She came over to me and leaned forward, “I’m surprised to see you here.”
“One of my best friends owns the place.”
She smiled as she nodded. “I-I—”
“You want to dance?”
I found myself asking.
She chewed on the inside of her cheek as she nodded. I took her hand and led her to the dance floor. I started with a small two-step as my eyes became fixated on her. Sage’s eyes shied away, but I pulled her chin up to look at me. Her hips began rocking to the reggae beat. I spun her around slowly as my arm wrapped around her waist, bringing her closer. She rested her head on my chest as we slowly grooved to the music. I felt like everyone in the club disappeared, and it was just her and me.
My hand tapped at her flat stomach as her hips swiveled all on me. My body moved along with hers as my head inched further down toward her face. I was wrapped in the moment, and although I was trying to force myself to come out of it, I couldn’t. Sage’s head lifted slightly, placing her lips only inches away from mine. A grin eased on her face as one eased on mine. I wanted to kiss her, I did, but I knew deep down I needed to handle Navanna first.
I pulled my eyes away for a few seconds to see Monfua and Lakia not too far from me, grinding all over each other. The way they moved, you could see there was a chemistry being bonded between the two. I knew I should have kept my attention on Sage, but if Foe saw his sister with Monfua, the nigga would lose his mind. I pulled away from Sage, “I’ll be right back,”
I whispered in her ear.
I moved around her and walked over to the two hound dogs grinding on each other. I tapped Monfua’s shoulder, “Nigga if you don’t want your throat slit, back up,”
I said in his ear.
Lakia glanced up and smiled when she saw me, “Prentice.”
I shook my head.
“Girl, if Foe sees you, he’s going to snap.”
I grabbed her arm, pulling her away from Monfua until I felt his hand on my shoulder.
“Nah, Lakia is good. She doesn’t need a fucking bodyguard. I got her.”
I laughed because this pretty nigga didn’t know who he was dealing with. I pushed my glasses up, then leaned in again, “I’m holy, but I’m still that nigga. Get your fucking hands off me. I said she’s coming with me.”
Lakia stood between us, “Ok, Prentice, you got it. Let’s go.”
I winked at Monfua. Lakia and I walked off, and that’s when I noticed Sage was walking out of the club. Shit! Foe came up to Lakia and me.
“Fuck you doing here, girl?”
She rolled her eyes at him.
“I’m grown.”
Foe eyed her curiously. He knew it was only so much he could say because she was older than he was, and what could you say to her? If it were up to me, she could have run off in the holy sunset with Monfua, but for the sake of the crew, I knew he needed to lay off.
Meanwhile, this was another moment I possibly messed up my blessing, worried about someone else.
