I grind my teeth and look at Lochlan, who pales. “I swear they didn’t do that fucking shit—fuck, maybe they did.”
I clap his shoulder. “You can make up for it now. Let’s kill the fuckers who did that to someone.”
He nods, his eyes lost and angry. The hall ends in another door, and I look to him as he blinks, obviously thinking back on everything he saw here and wondering if he could have done anything about it.
Grabbing his head, I hold it tight as I glare at him.
“I need you here. You want to make up for it? Then fucking help me. What’s behind this door? ” I snap.
He licks his lips and clears his throat.
“You’re fucking right, sorry. It’s more stairs, it leads up to reception.
From here on, they will be crawling everywhere.
They have no set routine. Apart from two men stationed in reception, the rest sleep, fuck, eat, and patrol wherever the fuck they want apart from Inferno, who will be in the boiler room at the very back. ”
“Right, so we go in quiet. Low. Dray, you’re with me. We sneak up and slit their throats, no fucking noise.” I look at him as I speak.
He grabs a small knife, and I do the same as he grins at me, his hand snaking down to my ass as he comes to my side. “I love assassinating people with you, soulmate,” he murmurs dreamily.
“Killing first,” I remind him.
He puts his hand on the door and winks back at me. “I was thinking at the same time, but fine, soulmate.”
Grinning, I nod at him, my knife ready. He opens the door slowly and we creep through, staying low as we slide up the stairs, crouching there and looking into the room to find them.
It’s a dump. There are two holey, dirty sofas in the corner with a table and a lamp.
The floor is covered in blood, dirt, sand, and rubbish.
There are more wooden barriers on a door farther into the plant, but I spot a corridor to the right.
To the left are toilets, the door is open, and I hear someone peeing from here.
Another guy is leaning on an overturned counter in the corner eating.
The whole room is dark apart from the random torches, leaving plenty of shadows, which is good for us. There are holes in the wall that give us glimpses into the rest of the plant, and we need to be careful to avoid them.
I look to Dray and nod at the toilet, telling him I’ll take that one. He grins, and we split up, moving quickly. I make sure to avoid the light so as not to cast shadows as I slip across the wall to the left and to the toilet door, ducking my head around.
Luckily, it’s dark in here too, with only one torch shining up into the ceiling. The man has his back to me, his legs parted and cock out as he pisses opposite me. His back is to me, and his weapon is on the sink at least two meters away. Idiot.
There are two stalls to the side, one without a side, the other without a door, so I can clearly see they are empty.
Smirking at how easy this is, I rush across the floor.
He must feel me at the last second, because he turns, but I catch him before he spins fully around.
My arm locks around his head, and I slice my knife across his throat.
I quickly cover his mouth as he kicks and jerks, the warm blood spraying everywhere, including the wall.
His ragged breathing as he dies is loud, but not loud enough to draw attention. When he finally stops moving, I lower him to the ground and turn. Dray is already at the door with blood splashed across his face and his knife dripping blood in his grasp.
“Good?” I ask quietly.
“Easy. Too fucking easy,” he murmurs before striding across the room, sliding his knife away as he goes.
His hands tunnel into my hair, yanking my head back as his lips smash against mine. Groaning, I tangle my tongue with his, kissing him back desperately before we break apart. We are both panting, and there is undoubtedly blood smeared across my face now too, which only makes him grin.
“Let’s get the others before I bend you over and fuck you,” he growls.
Smirking, I follow him back out front, watching the corridor as he opens the door and beckons the others upstairs.
They look around as I head to the corner and glance around it.
There is a man at the end, sitting in a fold away chair, with his head lowered to his chest as he snores.
His shaved head catches the light of the two barrel fires near him.
Ducking back, I put my finger to my lips, and everyone falls in behind me.
How the fuck do we do this? I look to Dray, and he peeks around the corner for a moment before moving back to my side.
He pins me to the wall, his lips going to my ear.
I didn’t mean that quiet, but I can’t really complain.
If anyone will know how, it’s the assassin.
“I can slip halfway down, then monkey crawl across the ceiling using the exposed bars, drop down behind him, and snap his neck.”
I shiver at his words, and his tongue darts out and licks my ear. Focus, Worth . “Do it if you think you can.”
“If I do, do I get a reward?”
“Yeah, I’ll use my whip on you later,” I tease.
He moves away so quickly I almost fall. I watch him go with a smile and a shake of my head. Peeking around the corner, I watch his progress, unsure if he can pull this off. He’s good, but it’s an open corridor, so all it would take is the man looking up .
I watch open-mouthed as Dray jumps up, catching the bars in the exposed ceiling, and then lifts his legs and starts crawling along them like some kind of ninja.
When he reaches the end, he throws his legs over the bars and then releases his hands, dangling upside down behind the man.
With a wink at me, he fists the man’s head and snaps his neck quickly.
He sits the body back down, then flies off the bars and dusts off his hands.
“Easy,” he calls.
We follow him down the corridor and past the dead body to the left.
It opens up into a metal tunnel, which ends abruptly at the large main room.
Standing there out of sight, I look around and whistle.
Fuck. I see what Lochlan meant. It’s huge, with three layers of railings and walkways, two in the air and one on the floor.
But these crazy bastards have built ladders and wooden planks between them, so it’s basically one giant maze system.
I spy men sleeping and wandering around everywhere.
“Okay, where first?” I mutter to Lochlan.
“You need to hit at once, or they will gang up and regroup. Find cover though, they will firebomb you,” he suggests.
Turning back, I look over my men. “Okay, ten each level. Maxen, you’re with the first ten with Thorn, Jax, and Drax second. Dray, you’re with me and Lochlan. Split yourselves up. I am going low, we are going to get Inferno.”
“We’ll take the top,” Drax offers, and Jax nods. “We can pick some off from up there too.” He winks, and I grin.
“Middle then. Be careful, Mi Alma ,” Maxen murmurs.
I nod and look them over. “You don’t fucking die, you hear me?” I demand.
My men all grin, and I turn before I hesitate and stride down the metal stairs to the right, the men walking behind me. I duck behind a huge pipe at the bottom and watch my other men split up, climbing and finding cover before we are seen.
A shout goes up, and I see Drax duck a firebomb that explodes behind him. He gets to his knees and fires. It causes chaos, and everyone starts shouting. They fire and more bombs explode. Fuck this. I push from behind the pipe with my men and start firing on those down here.
They turn in confusion. Their weapons are pointed up, which is why I manage to take down two and my men another three before we have to throw ourselves behind crates. Fire explodes over the top and front, and I grunt. “I fucking hate firebombs,” I mutter.
Lochlan pulls out two, and with a crazy grin, he lights them and tosses them.
Two seconds later, we hear them explode and screams follow.
Laughing, I grab one and throw it. “Okay, so maybe they aren’t so bad,” I tease.
Looking around the crate, I spot a man coming towards us with a sword.
I wait, crouched at the edge, and when he gets ready to strike, I dive out and disembowel him.
Grabbing the bottle at his hip, I light it and toss it to the others and rush to the next pipe. We do this time and time again, slowly making our way across the room. We have to duck behind cover when they fire from above, but Drax is making quick work of them, thank God.
I spot Maxen and Thorn handling them as well, so keeping my head down, I trust my men to get the job done. My focus is on getting to Inferno and killing him, they can handle the clean-up.
When we duck behind an old forklift, Lochlan moves to my side. “There,” he murmurs, pointing at a steel door towards the back. It has a ramp leading down to it, and a warning label on the front saying ‘Forge,’ where they have drawn a skull over it.
Adorable.
Ducking as more flames burst before us, I roll my eyes. “I am over these fuckers fighting like pussies.”
“What are you going to do?” he asks with a frown.
“Show them how Berserkers fight.” I grin and look at the man next to him. “Draw their fire, I just need to get close enough so they can’t light them.”
He nods and leans around the barrel. I stand and turn to see the six men hiding behind a makeshift fort of sandbags, throwing firebombs like pussies.
Withdrawing my other sword, I swing them in my hands as I storm swiftly across the distance.
They are so focused on the others, they don’t see me until it’s too late.
Jumping over the sandbags, I grin at them.
“Heads-up, fuckers,” I call, as I slice my sword across one of their throats, and as his throat slits and he falls back, I spin to the others.
They fumble for their weapons at their hips, relying so heavily on the firebombs, they are unprepared for hand-to-hand.
