Page 94 of The Deception You Weave
"Great, shall we?" I ask, gesturing toward the exit. I think it's fairly polite seeing as what I really want to do is throw her over my shoulder and march her out of this place.
"I'm not going anywhere with you," she spits, much to her dad's delight.
"See, just like your mother," he mutters while she stands with her hands on her hips and a petulant expression on her face.
"You two are unbelievable."
"Please, Let. Just go back to college and stay out of harm's way. You can call me, video call me. I promise I'm fine."
"You work for the devil, you're not freaking fine."
"Letty, this is my life," he says with a defeated sigh. "It's been my life for years. Please, just let me continue."
"No, I'm not leaving until I've made you dinner and sorted this place out."
As father and daughter stare each other down, both of their stubborn streaks too strong to concede, my patience snaps.
"Kane, what the fuck are you doing?" she screams as I do exactly as I should have done the second I got here and throw her over my shoulder.
"We're leaving."
"No, he needs—"
"Dinner, I heard. We'll order him a pizza on the way back."
"I'm not going with you." Her fists slam down on my ass as I walk us out of her dad's trailer. "Dad, help me," she screams, kicking her legs in the hope it'll make me put her down.
It won't work.
I spin, looking at her father before I walk out of his home.
His features are hard, his eyes narrowed at me.
"I hope you know that I'd just warned her to stay away from the likes of you, Legend."
"Yeah, well. Sometimes it's not that easy."
"If you put her in harm's way, I'll kill you myself."
"You can trust me, sir. Nothing will happen to her. I'm not the bad guy here."
Letty scoffs at my words.
"No, you're the fucking devil," she spits.
"Now, now, we all know that title is reserved for Victor," I growl at her. "I'll call someone to help you clean this place up a little, while you recover."
I nod at him before swinging the door open and marching through, Letty still flailing about in my arms.
"Put me down," she screams, starting up with the kicking and punching once again. A couple of teenagers who are kicking a ball down the track look up, but much like everything that happens here, they don't bat an eyelid at the fact I'm manhandling a woman. That pretty much sums up this place.
I open my passenger door and lower her inside.
"I'm not coming with you." She fights, clawing at my forearm when I pin her in place with my hand around her neck.
Leaning in until my nose is almost touching hers, I stare into her dark, angry eyes.
"You totally ignored my orders, Princess."
