Page 12 of The Deception You Weave
"W-wait," I call before he disappears. "What happened with the cameras?"
"Nothing yet. You ended up in the hospital and we kinda put it to one side."
"It was her."
He nods. "We know. Question is, why?"
"Any of you tried asking her?"
"Nope. Thought you might like a second shot at that."
"Victor said anything?"
"Nope."
My brows pull with confusion. "They came from him though, right?"
"Well, I'm pretty sure your girl isn't actually spying on us, so yeah."
"She's not my fucking girl."
"Sure. Sorry. Shout if you need me."

"Are you sure you've got everything?" Mom asks as she passes me the bag I threw a few things in before I hightailed it from MKU in the early hours of Saturday morning.
I walked back into the dorm to find everyone awake and waiting for me. They couldn't have known that Kane was going to send me away like he did, it makes me wonder just how long they'd have waited if I didn't show when I did.
Every single one of them jumped up at my arrival but it was Ella who raced forward and swept me into her arms. Brax and West quickly followed until I found myself in the middle of a group hug.
After excusing myself, I packed a bag while Ella watched from my bed, thankfully asking zero questions and with another hug, she watched as I drove out of the parking lot.
They've been messaging me all weekend, checking if I'm okay and I've assured them that I am. That I just needed some space after everything.
They heard the argument between Kane and me, although I have no idea if they actuallyheardthe words we spat at each other.
I really hope not.
It's bad enough I told him like I did. I really don't need my entire dorm knowing what I've been hiding.
"Yeah, I'm good," I say sadly, wishing I could stay here longer.
Mom must see that I'm only holding on by a thin thread because she gathers me up in her arms and tries to help hold me together.
"He's going to be okay," she whispers in my ear and I crack.
An ugly sob rips from my throat as I picture him lying in that hospital bed.
Kane has always been such an enigma. Larger than life. So to see him lying there totally helpless with machines and tubes… a shudder races through me.
Sucking in a steeling breath, I release Mom and give her a smile that I hope convinces her that I'll be okay, even if I feel like I’m shattering all over again.
"Everything will be okay," she says softly, squeezing my hand in support. "Give him some time and then tell him everything."
I nod at her, afraid that if I open my mouth all I am going to do is break down.
