Page 44 of The Deception You Weave
"Here." Devin throws me a pair of sliders that were by the front door and I slip them on before making my way over to something I never thought I'd see again.
I run my fingertips over the spotless gunmetal gray hood, not really believing what I'm seeing.
"Do you need me to give you a minute alone?" Devin asks as I continue walking around the car, my hand on the paintwork.
I ignore him, too confused to form an answer.
"H-how? How is this possible?" I look at the plate on the back. Yep, it's mine.
"You mean… you didn't organize this?"
"Do I look like I fucking knew?"
"No, you look like you need to get her in the garage for some private time together."
I flip him off.
"This wasn't me. I thought she was totaled."
"Well, clearly someone worked some magic because she looks pretty good to me."
I know the truck only hit the tail but Kyle told me she'd been picked up and was gone.
"Yeah," I breathe, continuing my tour around my car, focusing on the spot where I know the truck hit it.
She’s perfect. As if it never actually happened.
The second I get to the driver's door, I pull the handle and climb inside. I suck in a deep lungful of the clean car smell and I can't wipe the smile off my face.
Maybe all isn't lost after all.
Closing my eyes, I rest my head back for a beat, trying to let this settle in.
Shaking my head, I find that Devin has slipped back inside the house, probably to give me the privacy he teased about.
It's not until I look to my right to check out the rest of the inside that I find a white envelope on the passenger seat.
Picking it up, I hold it in front of me but the second my eyes land on the writing, my hand trembles.
Letty.

Letty
Iwalk into the Delta house with Ella and Violet on either side of me, feeling better than I have in a long time.
I'm rocking the swimsuit under the black bodycon dress they insisted I bought and teamed it with some huge hoop earrings, a small choker necklace, and ridiculously high strappy sandals.
I feel like the old me and it feels really fucking good.
Add the fireballs we had while we were getting ready and the buzz from the guy's epic win this afternoon and I feel like I'm on top of the world.
"Let's party," Ella shouts, throwing her arms over her head and rolling her hips as we get inside just as the beat drops.
"You two dance, I'll get drinks," I offer, making my way through the crowded house until I find the kitchen.
Grabbing three Solo cups, I fill them with vodka and soda before making my way back again and attempting not to spill them all over myself.
