Page 27 of The Deception You Weave
"I don't need anything from you, Alana. We're not a couple. You're married and should be with your husband."
"He doesn't want me and you know it," she spits. "But we could—"
"No. That is not what this is. You need to go."
Her lips part in shock but she swallows down whatever her next argument is. "Okay, fine. If you need me, you know where I am."
She stands from the bed and walks to the door. It's only now I notice what she's wearing. Her little nurse’s outfit barely covers her ass. The sight does nothing for me.
If it were on someone else, however… I shake the thought from my head.
"K?"
"Yes," I grit out when she's half out the door.
"Who's Letty?"
My chin drops at her question and my body heats. Why does she know her name?
"No one, why?"
She shakes her head. "No reason, you just said her name in your sleep."
"Huh, weird."Or not, seeing as I was wishing you were her."Later," I say, looking away once again in the hope it makes her leave.
Her footsteps ring out in my silent room as she races down the stairs, and thankfully, seconds later, the sound of the front door slamming makes everything rattle around me. I guess that explains how she feels about my dismissal then.
I have no idea what she was expecting though.
We're not a couple. We've never been a fucking couple.
I've only ever done my fucking job. It's just a shame she can't see it for what it is.
It takes longer than I want to admit to talk myself into crawling out of bed, but eventually my growling stomach forces me to move.
I glance at the bathroom door as I pass, desperate for a shower but know I don’t have it in me. Instead, I head for the hallway in the hope of finding some food.
When I finally get downstairs, I find Devin, Ezra, and Ellis sitting around takeout pizza boxes.
"Which one of you fucking assholes let her in?" I bark the second I walk into the room, keeping my eyes trained on each of them instead of the food I'm desperate for.
"Nah, man. Don't look at me," Devin says, holding his hands up in surrender.
I ignore Ellis because this has his twin’s name written all over it.
"What?" he says as if he can't believe I'd have an issue with this. "Did you not fucking see her?" He lifts his hands, mimicking her breasts as Ellis slaps him on the back of the head. "What was that for?"
"You're a pig."
"Wha—fine. If you can't appreciate a fine piece when it's in front of you, not my problem."
"I don't want her here. You got that?"
"Them meds are making you cranky. You should have considered letting her at least blow you before you kicked her ass to the curb. Ow." Ellis hits him again. "I'm just saying, you're tense as fuck."
"I don't want her anywhere near my junk. You," I say, pointing directly at Ezra. "Don't go anywhere fucking near her either."
"I know, I know, you don't share your toys unless you're involved."
