Page 37 of The Deception You Weave
"Oh yeah, my panties are melting right off me. You've got crumbs… everywhere," I say, waving my hand around in front of him because there are too many to just point out.
"Hmm…" He wipes them off and straight onto my floor. "So more about your panties." His eyebrow quirks in a way I know makes other girls swoon. I must admit, it does have an effect because my best friend is hella hot after all.
"Firmly in place, thank you. Check this out though." I rummage through one of my bags and pull out the barely-there swimsuit.
"Holy shit. Don't tell me that's for Saturday night."
"Might be." I smirk.
"Jesus," he mutters, running his hand through his hair. "Wanna give me a preview, you know, just so I can decide if it's actually appropriate or not?"
I hold the scrap of fabric on the end of my finger as I look like I'm considering his request.
"Nope."
"Can’t blame a guy for trying."
He takes a step toward me and something crackles between us.
"Did you have fun tonight?"
"Y-yeah. Um… why are you here?"
"Ouch, Let." He covers his heart with his hand.
"You know, I don't mean it like that. I just wasn't expecting you to be here."
"Why? Got a booty call planned?" The second the words are out of his mouth, he must realize his mistake.
"No."
"Shit, I… fuck."
His eyes hold mine and my truths are on the tip of my tongue, but even still when I speak, they're not what comes out.
"You working on our lit paper?" I ask, sidestepping him to look at what he's got laid out on my desk.
"Y-yeah."
He snatches my hand and forces me to look at him. Heat races up my arm and it's enough for me not to pull away.
"I can go if you want," he offers, his eyes darkening in disappointment.
It's only then I remember his words from this morning offering to sleep here so that I could actually get a few hours rest.
"Don't be silly. You okay hanging out on your own for a bit though, I need to shower."
"I'm easy," he says, tugging on my hand and pulling me in for a hug.
"Oh, I know, Mr. Dunn."
He barks out a laugh and I instantly feel better.
He falls back down onto my chair and I sort myself out and head for the bathroom.
My cell pings as I walk past my purse and I pull it out.
I have to do a double take at the name staring back at me because I wasn't expecting to hear anything from him.
