“We’ve been a little busy,” I tried to explain.

The door opened and others joined us as we were talking.

“I’ll say,” Christine added. “The whole Pack is talking about what Lucy did for Tabitha. It’s like a miracle.”

I smiled uneasily and nodded, not wanting to comment on it or try to explain that it wasn’t just Lucy who had healed her.

I was worried about how people would react to such a powerful young witch if they found out the truth about Vada. For now, no one would suspect. Still, I knew we needed to tell Kyle and Kelsey. Perhaps Kelsey would even be willing to train her in the coming years.

Personally, I’d never seen or heard of a child so young demonstrating the level of power Vada had shown. I’d heard the stories of Kelsey and her sisters though and knew she had come into her powers at a very young age too. It made me wonder if these witches were actually born with their gifts and some were just more noticeable than others in the early years. Unfortunately, until recently I really hadn’t had much experience with witches. Now they seemed to be everywhere.

I wasn’t complaining. They didn’t scare me. Quite the opposite actually. I was fascinated by them, even more so now that Lucy and Vada were in my life. I wanted to know everything about them and how to help them in whatever capacity they needed.

“Micah,” Christine said sounding a little annoyed.

I looked up and sensed that she had probably tried more than once to get my attention.

“What?”

“Is Lucy coming? Everyone else is here.”

“Yeah. She’ll be here soon. You guys grab some food and settle in.”

Chapter 23

I hated running late, but by the time I went back through everything with Silas and Vada, time had simply slipped by me. Now I was debating whether I should even show up or not as I sat in front of Micah’s house second guessing my plans to come.

A tap on my window startled me and I screamed.

Micah made a motion for me to roll down my window.

“Are you okay? You’ve been sitting out here for a few minutes already.”

“How did you know that?”

He shrugged. “I just knew.”

“Have you started the game yet?”

“No. We’re waiting on you, so are you coming or not?”

I blushed, hating the thought of them holding their game up because of me. I honestly thought he would have already started by now.

“About time,” Christine said snidely.

“Sorry,” I muttered taking the open seat between her and Micah.

My leg bounced up and down as I tried to settle in. Without even looking my way, Micah started recounting the tales of our journey as a reminder of where we left off the week before. While he talked, his foot stretched out and wrapped around my leg.

The sudden contact with my mate calmed me instantly. I sighed and chanced a look at him. He just smirked and winked as he called the game into play.

My focus shifted as I allowed myself to be swept away into a magical world that had saved me time and time again.

Unfortunately, it went much too fast. I was sad to see Micah wrap things up and then having to say goodbye to new friends.

Susan and Tarron held back to help us clean up.
