“Yeah, I know it’s a little silly. I don’t even know when Micah will be home, but we were supposed to move out of my rental and into his house this weekend.”

“You were?”

“Yes. So, I figured I could at least start packing and clean things up here just in case. I want to be ready.”

It sounded silly to say it out loud.

“Well, do you need some help? I could bring sandwiches over. You do have to eat.”

There was that hope tinged in her voice once more. It wasn’t like me to accept help easily, but I found myself agreeing.

When I got off the phone with her, it rang again almost immediately.

“Hello?”

“Hey Lucy, just wanted to check in on you,” Susan said.

“I’m fine. Lorraine’s bringing lunch over. I’m just packing.”

“Packing? What? Why?” she asked in a panic.

“Relax. Vada and I were supposed to move to Micah’s tomorrow. I know they probably won’t be home in time to do it this weekend now, but I figured I could start getting ready at least.”

“Oh, right. I forgot about that. Tarron actually left me the list of everything Micah wanted done tomorrow. We haven’t heard from Bravo yet. That’s not really uncommon for a spontaneous mission like this, but Delta’s in town. I’ll make some calls and see if the guys are willing to pitch in. Maybe we can get you two moved this weekend after all.”

“Really? Wait, he left a list? I told him we didn’t have much, a couple carloads maybe. I could probably have Lorraine watch Vada and do it myself even.”

“Oh girl, there’s a lot more to it than that.” She laughed. “Don’t worry about a thing. I’m on it. Do you have a key to his house?”

My heart sunk. “No, I don’t. So much for that idea.”

“Well don’t give up yet. Delta can always find a way in if they have to, but I bet his parents have a key for emergencies. Ask her when she gets there.”

“Yeah, okay. I’ll do that.”

“And do you need some help? Shelby and Emma are back to their normal routine today, but the rest of us can come and help.”

“Honestly I don’t think there’s enough to do to bother, but if you guys just want to come and see for yourself, you’re welcome to.”

“I’ll grab some lunch and make some calls. I don’t know who’s available, but I’ll swing by this afternoon and help where I can.”

Everything seemed to move at warp speed from there. Lorraine showed up with lunch. Turned out she did have a spare key to Micah’s after all. She stuck around to help as Susan and Alaina came by to get me packed. They’d made all the arrangements for move day, too.

It felt weird to be proceeding without Micah. But Saturday came quickly, and things were rolling with or without my consent.

“Susan, what if he changed his mind? I’m not sure this is such a good idea.”

She laughed. “Trust me. That boy is never going to change his mind when it comes to choosing you.”

I blushed at her words. I hoped she was right. We hadn’t exactly sealed our bond or made it official yet.

That didn’t seem to matter to anyone but me.

Lorraine and Mallick were babysitting Vada at their house despite the offer by the others. She’d practically insisted on it and I had to admit that knowing she was with them eased a bit of my anxiety.

By the time I got to Micah’s house, it felt like a construction zone. Men I had never seen before were moving furniture, cleaning rooms, painting, it was insane.

“What is going on?” I squeaked out.
