“That’s a stupid thing to say. There are rules for a reason,” Tarron reminded him. “And Micah’s right. You cheated.”
“Did he?” Silas challenged.
I snorted, knowing we weren’t going to win this one.
“You’re only agreeing because he was on your team,” I said with a laugh.
“Better luck next time,” Silas told me while barking for the team to hit the showers.
That was my cue to leave. I’d head home and shower there instead.
“Hey, are we still on for D&D tonight at your place?” Tarron asked.
“Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t be?”
“Well with everything going on with your grandmother, Lucy, and all, I just wanted to make sure.”
“See you tonight,” I simply said as I left them to drive home, shower, and prepare for the evening.
Lucy called me as I was setting up the last of the table for the game.
“Hey. I missed you today,” I said as I answered the phone.
“Missed you too. Vada called asking about babysitting tonight.”
It made me uncomfortable letting others watch our girl, but I had loved having Lucy at D&D night and selfishly wanted her here tonight.
“What did you tell her?”
“Just that I would call her back when I knew what I was doing.”
I sighed, hoping she wouldn’t hear it.
“If you don’t want to come for game night, it’s okay. I’ll just come by afterwards.”
“Oh, okay,” she said weirdly.
I knew something was off.
“Luce.”
“Yeah?”
“I want you here,” I blurted out. “Unless you really didn’t enjoy it. I loved having you here.”
“Really?”
“Of course. Vada and Silas can handle babysitting for a few hours, or you can just bring her with you. Starting next week when we play here, they’re going to have to get used to having our girl around anyway. Or we could let Mom and Dad watch her instead.”
“That’s probably too much to ask of them.”
I laughed. “Did you see the room they created for her? Trust me, they’ll want to do this.”
“We’ll see. I guess I’ll let Vada and Silas have another go at it for tonight. I mean, they did keep her alive last week.”
We both laughed remembering the disturbing text updates Silas kept sending.
“You’re sure?”
