She bit her lip, and I could feel she was still holding something back from me.
“Nothing formal, but I aided and assisted hundreds during captivity. The Raglan would have just left them to die without a care so there were a few of us that pitched in to help whenever possible.”
“Okay, but most of the job will likely be boring, answering phones, setting up appointments, organizing and pulling patient files, stuff like that. Are you sure you want that?”
“I know you sometimes work late, like tonight. I would have to pick Vada up from school and bring her back here on those nights.”
“I mean, you two are always welcome here. I don’t mind her hanging out here at all. There’s even a spare room that we can turn into a safe playroom for her even, but are you sure you’re okay with this?”
“This? What?”
“Working every day, with me.”
I needed her to say yes. It suddenly felt like the most important moment of my life as I waited.
She smirked. “That’s not exactly a hardship.”
“It’s not?”
She gave me a weird look and shook her head as I felt like my heart was about to explode in my chest. It was the first true sign of acceptance I have felt from her. Sure, there had been smaller things, but this felt major.
“To be honest, I think my wolf would be a lot happier and more settled if I were close to you each day.”
I couldn’t stop myself this time. I wasn’t going to hold back. I closed the gap between us, and I kissed her as if my life depended on it.
She gasped and then sighed as she kissed me back.
Lucy
Chapter 9
I vaguely remembered hearing the little bell chime as the door opened behind me.
Micah pulled back abruptly cutting our kiss off.
“Nonna. I’ll be with you in just a moment.”
“Woo wee, if that’s the kind of treatments you’re handing out these days, sign me up, lover boy.”
The tips of Micah’s ears actually darkened.
“Sorry,” he whispered to me. “That’s my three o’clock.”
My head was still in a daze, until I heard three o’clock.
“Wait, it’s three?”
“Yeah, or about. She usually arrives a few minutes early.”
“I have to pick up Vada,” I practically shouted.
He stilled me with his touch. “Hey, we’ll talk more tonight about… you know,” he said glancing over at Nonna.
I was well aware of who she was and had already suspected she was a bit of a gossip around town. Making out with the Pack physician in between appointments was not exactly the thing I wanted everyone in Westin Pack to know about me.
“We’re cool?”
“Yes, but I really have to run. And don’t forget to eat,” I yelled over my shoulder as I ran out of the building transitioning fully into mom mode.
