I laughed. “You’re not getting anything from me. Patient doctor confidentiality. How many times do I have to remind you of that?”

“It doesn’t count when you’re both.”

I snorted. “Nonna, it’s been a really long day and even longer weekend. I’m exhausted. Do you actually want me to look at that shoulder.”

“No, I’m fine for now. If it keeps acting up, I’ll be back.”

She winked at me as she jumped off the table and left the room, taking my kid with her.

“Hey, you don’t get to keep her!” I yelled after her.

Vada giggled and waved. “Bye, Doc.”

“No, you don’t, sweet girl,” Lucy said snatching her from Nonna’s arms.

Knowing everyone was where they should be, I sanitized the room to prepare for my next patient. Much to my relief, no more showed.

By four-thirty with no patients and the place cleaned and ready for a new day, I closed the clinic early.

“Are you sure?” Lucy asked.

“I’m exhausted and just want to go home.”

She bit her lip and nodded.

“What?”

“I kind of liked having you stay over last night.”

My wolf howled in my head in victory.

“So, um, are you talking about your home or mine?”

I pulled her into my arms and kissed her.

“Whichever you prefer.”

She seemed torn.

“I really liked your place, but all of Vada’s things are at mine.”

“I’m not fixing that tonight, but if you and Vada want to move into my house, we can make that happen. And if you’d rather stay at the house you’re in now, if that will be easier on her, then I’ll talk to Kyle about purchasing it.”

“Micah, you can’t do that.”

“The hell I can’t. I don’t care where we live, Luce. I just want to be with you and Vada.”

She ran her hands through my hair and smiled.

“How did I get so lucky?”

“Funny. I’m pretty sure I’m the lucky one.”

“For tonight, my house. But maybe this weekend we could start moving things over?” she asked, biting her lip and holding her breath for my response.

I kissed her. “I’ll call in some favors to get some help.”

“I really don’t have much.”
