“Apparently there’s a bit of a bomb inside that guy when pushed to his limits, which Charlie did. Anyway, Archie banned her from the premises, and I had to take her home. Alaina acted like it was our fault for traumatizing that stupid mouse.”
“Stupid is not the world I’d use for Charlie,” Tarron said with a laugh. “More like evil genius.”
Jake sighed as I laughed.
“Never a dull moment around here,” I pointed out.
“Crisis over?” Painter asked.
“Yeah. For now.”
“Great, then let’s play some ball.”
“Hey, I have a favor to ask you guys,” I blurted out.
“And then we can actually play?” Baine teased.
“What is it?” Silas asked.
“If you guys are free this weekend, do you think you could help move Lucy and Vada over to my house? I’d like to paint the spare room for Vada as well.”
“So you haven’t bonded with her, but you’re moving in together?” Grant teased.
“We’ll get around to that part and living together will help with that. I hope,” I confessed making the others laugh.
“Of course we will,” Jake said. “I’m really happy for you, man.”
“Thanks.”
“We’ll all be there. My orders,” Silas barked.
“Yes, sir,” Baine said while saluting dramatically.
“We’ll be there,” Taylor assured me. She couldn’t stop grinning.
“Don’t make a big deal out of this,” I warned her.
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
Grant laughed wrapping his arms around his mate and kissing her bare shoulder in a rare showing of open affection while on the clock. Working together, they had an unspoken hands-off rule during work hours, though even I knew that was only for the team’s benefit. There had been plenty of rumors of catching the two of them in compromising positions in closets and behind locked doors, but they did at least try to keep their hands to themselves for the most part.
“That means T’s about to pull in the mates as well. They’ll have your bachelor pad properly girly-fied before the weekend’s over,” Baine assured me.
I groaned but couldn’t stop grinning.
“Oh, he’s a goner already. Doesn’t even care one bit.”
I shrugged. “If Lucy wants flowers and shit all over the house, so be it. I don’t care as long as I have her and Vada with me.”
Baine rolled his eyes dramatically. “Spoken like a truly whipped male.”
“Can you pansies just shut up and play some basketball already?” Silas grumbled.
Getting lost in the game was just what I needed to clear my head. This time I was far more focused and put up a good fight even if my team did fall short by two points.
“Rematch,” I demanded. “That was a foul, and you know it.”
Baine just smirked and shrugged. “All’s fair in love and basketball.”
