I froze and my jaw dropped. “What did you say?”
“She is not mated.”
“But her daughter…”
He squirmed in his seat uncomfortably. “Her daughter is what I was going to discuss with you. How much do you know about your mate?”
My heart raced. My mate.My Alpha had just acknowledged her as my mate.
“Nothing. She brought Vada into the clinic today for a school physical. When our eyes met, she freaked out and left. I followed. I managed to make it through the assessment of her daughter without entirely making an ass of myself. Kyle she’s not yet three years old. Where the hell is her father?”
I had jumped out of my chair at some point in the rant and began pacing again.
He sighed. “Take a seat, Micah. If it were anyone else, I’d be telling you to just go and talk to her. And if you were anyone else, I’d certainly not be sharing this.”
Curiosity had me taking a seat.
“I’m not speaking to you as her potential mate right now. I’m talking to you as their doctor and what I’m going to tell you absolutely falls under patient-doctor confidentiality. Do you understand?”
“Yes, sir,” I said.
“And can you do that, Micah? Can you separate your personal feelings from your professional ones right now?”
“I don’t know,” I said honestly. “But I damn well do know I’m not leaving this room until you tell me.”
He nodded slowly. “Lucy doesn’t have a mate. She is one of the Raglan victims from the big rescue.” He paused letting that sink in as a growl escaped me.
“Sorry. I’m okay, continue, please.”
“Her daughter is literally named after Silas’s Vada who delivered her into this world.”
“How long was Lucy in captivity?” I asked.
“Five years I believe she said.”
“So Vada was conceived in captivity then?” I asked.
“Micah, Vada wascreatedin captivity.”
He let that sink in for a minute, know I was well aware of the experiments that had been run on shifters while with the Raglan. I had poured over the data and details in preparation to receive over two hundred of them here. I knew most of their cases. How had Lucy and Vada escaped me?
“I can see the confusion on your face. You’re mentally going through all of their files, aren’t you?”
I shrugged but we both knew he was correct.
“She just arrived.”
“How is that possible?” Now I was dying to know everything there was to know about her and the child.
“She’s a bit skittish, Micah.”
“Oh, I’ve already experienced that for myself.”
I was surprisingly calm with the news. My freak out was over. She wasn’t mated. She was mine. That’s all I could think about. She was mine.
“She originated from the New York Pack, and she still has family there, so after the big rescue, she went home.”
The way his voice changed I knew what was coming next.
