“So, I guess the wolf’s out of the bag, and I’ll just have to get used to it.”

“I’m sorry we put you in that position. I’m sorry I put you in that position.”

“You weren’t the only one I worked on today. Kelsey was wearing out and needed me. She’s done so much for me that I just couldn’t tell her no.”

“You did the right thing, and I’m not just saying that because you saved my life.”

I gave her a lazy grin, but she just rolled her eyes before turning a wide-eyed serious look up at me.

“I’ve never been so scared, Micah. I thought I was going to lose you.”

I rubbed her back gently and leaned in to whisper, “You aren’t going to get rid of me that easily.”

She reached up and caressed my cheeks reverently.

“I don’t ever want to get rid of you. As terrifying as that is to me, it’s true. I’m not used to relying on other people.”

“Because they always disappoint or hurt you?” I guessed.

She nodded.

“I can’t promise I will never disappoint you, Lucy. I can’t even promise I’ll never hurt you. I could never do either intentionally. But I am still human, at least partly, and I’m not perfect.”

She shook her head.

“You are perfect, though. Perfect for me.”

Overwhelmed by her words, I closed the gap between us and kissed her again. This time I deepened it, letting my tongue run across the seam of her lips until she smiled and opened to me. I nipped at her bottom lip before letting my tongue dance with hers.

When she let out a soft moan, I slowly pulled back. She looked a little dazed and confused as I stood up and then took her hands to pull her up to me. Before she could question my motives, I tossed her over my shoulder and walked down the hall to my bedroom.

As much as I wanted to just lay her down on the bed and claim her as mine, I detoured for the shower first. I turned on the water to let it warm and before she could stop me, I walked us both in, clothes and all, and finally set her down.

She shrieked and then laughed.

“Micah, you’re crazy!”

“Come on, we’re both disgusting and covered in mud. Tell me you didn’t need this, too.”

“You could have let me take my clothes off first.”

She was fussing, but her face was bright with a smile and a twinkle in her eye.

“You’re right. Let me help you with that.”

Slowly, I started removing her clothes one item at a time. First her shirt, her shoes, one sock, then the other. I took my time undoing her pants and sliding them down her legs as I pressed a kiss to her stomach making her quiver. Her matching bra and panties I quickly peeled off to join the rest of her clothes on the floor.

I kicked off my shoes and socks and reached for the hem of my shirt, but she beat me to it as she slowly lifted it over my head. I laughed as she tried to tug the soaking wet shirt off of me. I moved to help, but she smacked my hand away determined to do it herself. She grinned triumphantly when she finally managed to get it over my head and tossed down on the floor of the shower. Then she let her hands trail down my body until she reached the button of my pants.

Starting to get impatient, I let her undo the button and unzip my pants before I took over and pushed them down along with my boxers and kicked them to the side.

My mouth found hers again and as my tongue ran across her teeth, I felt her canines begin to shift and smiled against her lips.

“Not yet, my sweet mate.”

She pouted, making me laugh.

“I am not claiming you in the shower, but I do have other plans.”
