I’d told my sister about the things that Bonita was saying to me and she was pissed. She wanted to come to my job and act a fool, but I talked her down. I couldn’t have my sister going to jail on my behalf. She better be glad I needed my job, which was why I didn’t whoop her ass the day she was popping her mess.

“YouknowI’ll smile in my mugshot behind you.” She glanced my way briefly then turned her attention back toward the road. “I just hope I don’t get drunk and beat Brock’s ass tonight.”

I laughed and agreed, “I hope you don’t either.”

The rest of the ride to the club was filled with conversation about our parents. My dad had recently retired from being a school teacher and their thirtieth wedding anniversary wasapproaching, so we were going to send them on a vacation. It was hard trying to decide on something because our mom didn’t want to fly and our father didn’t really care for the sand at the beach.

By the time we made it to the club we settled on a cruise. There was plenty for them to do on the ship and if they decided not to get off when the ship docked, they didn’t have to. The only thing our mom would have to have to worry about was our father and his obsession with the weather. He had all kinds of gadgets that tracked the weather and he literally worried us all to death about it. Geri and I were going to have to go over to take all of his stuff and hide it before they left.

Once we made it to the club and parked, I text Derrick to let him know that we were there. Either he would meet us at the door, or he’d send his minions, either way we wouldn’t be paying to get in.

Both Geri and I checked our makeup before we exited the car and headed inside. My sister knew the girl that was working the door, so we were able to skip the line, and as expected, one of Brock’s guys was there to pay our way in and escort us to the section.

As soon as he spotted me, he hopped down from the couch he was standing on and approached us. He pulled me into a hug and tried kissing my lips, but I turned my head causing his to land on my cheek. He chuckled and gave my ass a firm squeeze before releasing me.

As requested, one of the sofas was empty for me, my sister, and best friend, Camara, who was on the way. She was going to ride with us, but she had to get her son to his grandparents for the weekend, so she opted to meet us here.

Derrick had a plethora of bottles in the section, but he also had a ton of niggas there all drinking out of each of them, so I had him get us our own. Plus, I wanted the waitress to bring asign that said “happy birthday”to my sister when she brought it out.

Once our bottle came and Camara had arrived, we started to party and enjoy ourselves. I was glad that my sister and her friend were with me because I hated being out with Brock and his people. I rarely went out with him, but there were times he talked me into joining him and I regretted it each time because he always ended up a drunk ass mess.

The party was in full swing and unfortunately Brock was a drunken fool after only an hour when I noticed some of the waitresses cutting through the crowd again. I thought they were coming our way, but they detoured, heading toward the section next to ours. I didn’t even have time to look to see who was there before I noticed Brock hop down and make his way toward me.

He stood right in front of me, hitting the guy that stood next to him in the chest to get his attention.

“Look at this hoe ass nigga,” he yelled over the music then pointed. “Them boys thin over there,” he said and they laughed. “Two fuckin’ bottles.” He shook his head. “I’m gon’ help him out.”

I leaned forward a bit to see who he was talking about. When I noticed that it was Adonis, my heart rate sped up some. He looked so good dressed in a teal, purple, black and white vintage Louis Vuitton windbreaker with matching shorts and Aqua Jordan 8’s. I knew what they were because I was a sneaker girlie myself. Unlike Derrick, he wasn’t wearing much jewelry. Only a simple Cuban link chain, the matching bracelet as well as a watch. In my opinion, he looked better than Derrick and anyone in his camp without even trying. Adonis was always so well put together and simple, yet everything he wore looked expensive.

Derrick had flagged down one of the bottle girls and given her instructions before she disappeared. I waited impatiently forthem to return so that I could see what was about to happen and how it would play out.

Minutes later they were entering Adonis’s section with bottles, lights, and all the works. He looked confused before waving the main girl over and saying something in her ear. She replied to him then pointed our way causing his eyes to follow the direction of her finger.

When he and Brock locked eyes, Derrick lifted the bottle he was holding. Adonis didn’t react right away, instead his gaze dropped to me, and he smirked. I had to force myself not to smile and turn away quickly. I didn’t want Derrick seeing the exchange and getting the wrong idea.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Adonis saying something to the waitress who grabbed the bottles and exited the section with them. Derrick and his friend started talking shit again, saying Adonis was probably ashamed that he couldn’t afford the bottles himself, and that he was letting his pride get in the way of having a good time.

I, however, didn’t understand what Derrick’s deal was. Adonis was in the section with only two other people so two bottles was plenty for the three of them. He just wanted everyone to be as flashy and ridiculous as his childish ass.

Per usual, Adonis’s presence intimidated him because he became really extra from that point on. He was rowdy, jumping around as he rapped along to some of the songs and he was also all over me, not caring that he was stepping on my feet and knocking me, my sister, and her friend around.

“Let’s go to the bathroom!” my sister leaned down and yelled.

Nodding, I grabbed my purse then followed her and Camara. I noticed Bonita, Amy and two other girls in there when we entered, so I rolled my eyes and approached the sink while they all filled the stalls.

“I’m so mad I can’t drink with y’all tonight,” Bonita said. I knew it was only a matter of time until the bitch got started. “But my baby daddy is in here tonight, and I’m not in the mood to fight with him.”

“Girl, didn’t y’all just makeup earlier?” Amy asked.

“Yes, girl. He can never stay mad too long. Especially after seeing the ultrasound today.”

I racked my brain trying to think of what Derrick had been doing earlier, but I was coming up short. I worked but couldn’t recall if I’d seen Bonita’s ass. I made it my businessnotto run into her ass today, but now I was annoyed that I’d actually avoided her because I needed to know whether or not to beat her ass.

“Did he say what he wanted?” Amy exited the stall first then Bonita and the other girls.

Bonita’s eyes were locked on mine in the mirror, and she was smirking like she knew something I didn’t.

“A boy of course.” Her smile grew wider. “We settled on making him a junior and just calling him DJ for short.”
