Fuck it, we’re not at work right now.

“Cammy, did you bring my sneakers? You know, in case we have to dust a goofy bitch off tonight?” Before I could pop off, my sister exited the stall with Camara coming out of the one next to her.

“I sure did.” Camara smirked forcing her way in front of the band of dizzy hoes in front of us.

“Y’all, I got it,” I pulled them back. “Is there something you need to get off your chest, Bonita?”

“What are you talking about?” she tried playing stupid. “I wasn’t talking to you.”

“No, bitch, but you’re trying to be fucking funny like I won’t show your punk ass I’m a whole comedian.”

“Girl, you’re crazy.” She tried laughing me off and turning away, but I forcefully turned her ass back toward me.

“Don’t play with me bitch, in here or anywhere else.” I warned. “You’ve been trying to be cute and shit, and I’ve only spared you because we were at work. We’re not now, and on my mama, I will beat you the fuck up in here tonight, pregnant or not.”

Again, she tried laughing it off, but I knew the real. She was a punk ass bitch. She always had been. She was that girl in high school that picked on people that she felt couldn’t beat her, but when she saw me in action, she took her ass the fuck on. Now, she only tried that cute shit at the job because she knew I wasn’t going to jeopardize my career for her.

“No, Jru, let’s wait until she has that ugly ass baby to whoop her ass.” My sister pulled me toward the door. “As much as I want you to walk her like the dog she looks like, I can’t let you crash out. She’s going to get hers, and when she does, the entire next generation gon’ feel that ass whooping.”

She grabbed my arm and dragged me toward the door. I made sure to mug Bonita’s ass the entire way too. I was pissed, not only with her but with Derrick too. Putting me in situations where I was arguing at work and in the restrooms at the club was ridiculous.

When we exited the restroom, I was in front of the girls and literally collided with Adonis who appeared to be on his way to the men’s room. To keep me from stumbling, he circled his arm around my waist and held me against his person.

I wanted to say something; apologize for running into him and stepping on his shoes, or to ask him to release me, but the feeling of being in his secure hold along with the intoxicating scent of his cologne had rendered me speechless. I often dreamed about what being in his embrace would feel like, and it felt exactly how I’d imagined.

Secure.

Safe.

“You good?” he asked, the vibrations from his deep baritone giving me chills.

“Y-yes.” I stammered, finally snapping out of the trance he had me in and stepping out of his embrace. “I’m sorry.”

“You good.” He held eye contact with me for a second before looking to my sister and Camara, nodding at them both and saying, “what’s good y’all.”

“Hi, Don.” They both sang in unison.

I felt them both nudge me subtly before they continued on, leaving us alone in the small hallway. Gerica lived for shit like this and Camara was no better. They’d both been team Adonis from the very beginning.

His gaze traveled back to mine, and for a second, I was stuck. His dark eyes always intrigued me. They told a story that he’d never really been willing to vocalize, but I didn’t need him to. I knew what he was thinking and feeling just from simply looking into his eyes.

I thought I did anyways.

“Jru!” Derrick barked my name causing me to jump and reminding me that he was in the club with us. Adonis frowned when I flinched. “Get yo’ ass over here!”

I got ready to make my way to him, but Adonis’s soft hand wrapped around my wrist to stop me.

“Nigga don’t be fuckin’ yellin’ at her,” he snapped.

“Don’t tell me how to handle my bitch nigga.”

Derrick and his people began closing the distance, and I panicked. Adonis was alone while Derrick had five guys behind him. I quickly pulled my hand away and made my way to my boyfriend. I knew that Adonis could hold his own because I’d seen him in action plenty of times, but he was severelyoutnumbered, and I didn’t want him getting hurt on account of me.

Adonis clearly didn’t care how many niggas were with Derrick because he stepped in front of me before I could make it over to him, damn near nose to nose.

“Disrespect her again. I dare you to call her out her mothafuckin’ name again.” He stood there with his arms folded in front of his chest as if he were taunting him. “Give me a reason to beat yo’ ass in here tonight.”

Derrick smirked, looking Adonis up and down.
