“Explain what?” she asked.

“Come to the door, Jruelle.”

“Fine, I’m coming,” she snapped then hung up the phone.

As soon as she came to the door, I yanked her body into mine and asked, “who the fuck you yellin’ at and hangin’ the fuck up on like that?”

She grinned as she looked up at me. “Nobody. I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, aight.” I walked us in, still holding onto her, using my foot to kick the door shut.

“So, who is that?”

“His name is Greg,” I answered. “I hired him as security…”

“For me? For what?”

“I hired him to protect you.”

“Why, Adonis?”

“Because I can’t be everywhere you are at all times, so I need to make sure you?—”

“Great,” she pushed out of my arms. “I have to deal with this again.”

“Deal with what? And again?” I needed to know exactly what she meant by that because I’d never had anyone on her before.

“Yes, again.” She sighed. “Derrick had people following me around all the time…”

“This ain’t that and I ain’t Brock, Jruelle.” I frowned. “That nigga had people followin’ you to know your moves. I got Greg on you to make sure you’re safe, so keep the comparisons, aight?”

“Okay, I wasn’t meaning it like that.”

“Yeah, you was.” I shook my head and stood. “I’m gon’ head out. I’ll holla at Greg and tell him introduce himself to you and shit. Maybe you’ll be a little more comfortable.”

I was irritated with her that quickly because I was over the “compare and contrast” shit she did with me and Brock. Sheknew that I wasn’t shit like the nigga, but she constantly brought him up when I did something with or for her.

“Adonis, stop.” She grabbed my arm. “I was wrong, and I’m sorry. You’re nothing like Derrickat all, so I’m wrong to keep grouping you with him.”

“It’s straight.”

“No, it’s not.” She stood, wrapping her arms around my torso, planting her chin on my chest as she peered up at me. “Don’t be mad at me. I’m sorry.”

“Come spend the weekend at my crib and I won’t be mad.”

“What? That’s not a bargain.” Her pretty ass said and smiled.

“It’s my bargain.” I kissed the top of her head. “I wanna lay up with you then wake up to this pretty ass face.” I pinched her chin. “I’ll take you out one of them days too.”

“Oh, so I have to spend the night in order to get a date?”

“Naw, but it’s gon’ strengthen your chances.” I smirked. “You gon’ be busy movin’ next week, so come over this weekend.”

She completed her homebuying process and would be going to her closing on Monday, so she was going to be out shopping for shit and moving all of her things into her place next week. I wanted to chill with her before that time came, so I was asking her to come kick it with me at my spot for a few days. It was straight being at her people’s crib, but it was always hard for me to get comfortable there. It wasn’t that I was unwelcomed because I always was, but I couldn’t lay up in the way I wanted to out of respect for her parents.

“If we can do game night tonight, I’ll agree.”

“Game night?” I repeated and she nodded.
