“Just a stomach ache.” I answered, minimizing how I really felt.

My stomach was hurting but reducing it to a stomach ache was keeping it light. Hell, I’d have preferred that over what I was dealing with any day.

“Ya period on?”

“No.” I chuckled. “Why would you automatically assume that?”

“I mean, shit, I know women be going through it when they shit on.”

“I’m surely not an exception to that, but that’s not the case today. Just an ache.”

He was quiet for a second before he asked, “you need something? I got some shit going on right now, but I can save it for later and come see you.”

“No.” I shook my head as if he could see me. “I’m fine. I’m just going to get some sleep. I’ll probably feel better once I get up.”

“Aight. By the time you up from ya nap, I’ll probably be done and able to bring you some food and shit.”

“Sounds good.”

“Aight, baby. Get you some rest and just hit me when you get up.”

“I will.”

“Sleep tight, beautiful,” he said before disconnecting the call.

The loud sound of someone banging on the door jarred me from my sleep. I grabbed the phone to check the time and saw that it was a little past six in the evening. I laid there thinking that my parents would get it because I was sure they were home, but they clearly hadn’t made it back yet or something because the banging continued.

Tossing the cover from my body, I climbed out of bed and made my way down the steps. When I peeked out of the curtain on the window, I saw that it was Derrick. I sighed heavily and closed my eyes for a few seconds before opening the door.

“Why are you here?” I asked and frowned.

“I’ve been calling you.” He snapped and tried walking in, but I stopped him. “Man, watch out, Jru.”

“No, you’re not coming in here.” I spat. “You need to leave.”

“Why? I know you’re not still mad about the shit with Bonita.”

“I’m not mad, I’m just done.” I replied flatly.

“Done? For what? It ain’t like you was living right either. You think I ain’t heard about you running around with Don’s bitch ass?” He frowned hard. “And I see his car over there. You got the nigga laid up in there with you?”

“I don’t care what you’veheard. What I didaftermy relationship with you was done is none of your business.” I responded, ignoring the last part of his question.

I didn’t owe him an explanation about anything that I was doing.

“Let me come in and talk to you,” he requested, but I stood firm not allowing him to push the door open.

“Leave, Derrick.” I pointed. “I don’t want to talk, and I don’t want you here.”

“Bitch,” he growled before he forcefully pushed the door causing me to fall backward, hitting my back then head on the railing.

He came inside toward me after that, so I quickly kicked him in his groin causing him to double over. I was able to push him out of the door then quickly close it and lock it. I hurried to grab my phone to call the police.

By the time they came, my parents were returning home. They were both furious after finding out what happened. Thankfully, they had outside cameras so I would be able to use video footage when we went to court because I was definitely pressing charges. My mom was going on and on about how she told me to put a restraining order on him when I came back from Atlyn Bay. I didn’t argue with her because she was right. She’dtold me to do it and I underestimated what Derrick would do because he’d never assaulted me before.

My sister was furious when she made it to our parents, and Rhea happened to call and check on me, so she came over as well after forcing my parents address out of me. She was upset and concerned too. I didn’t want to introduce her to my family like this, but it was what it was for the moment,

“Have you called Adonis to tell him what happened?” My sister asked and I shook my head.
