Page 63 of Your Last First Kiss
His body is as relaxed as I’ve ever seen him. He’s patient and kind and so freaking sexy. It’s only now that I remember we’re standing in my bedroom, only a few feet apart, and my gaze drops to my bed, thankful I made it this morning.
“Who takes care of you, Penny?” he asks. My name on his lips makes my core coil with need.
“I do. I take care of me.”
He shakes his head and takes a step closer. “It’s not enough.”
“It’s what I have. I’m all I have. Me and Miller.”
“And me, sweetheart. For the foreseeable future, you have me. And if I haven’t proven myself to you in one month’s time, well, then I’ll have to come up with a backup plan.”
“You make it sound like you’re planning to be around forever.”
He takes another step and another until his warmth wraps around me like a heated blanket. “I like the sound of that,” he whispers. “But we have to do things the right way.”
“The right way?” Jesus. Why do I gulp every time his words affect me?
“I’ve waited, wanted, dreamed, and fantasized about you for three long years. I’m tired of waiting, Penny.”
He’s tired of waiting. What does that mean? He just said he would be here. Didn’t he?
“I understand,” I say with my eyes downcast, even though I’m more confused than ever. It’s too hard to look at him. I can’t afford to get caught up in the magic of the day, because that’s all it is. Magic.
It has to be.
“I don’t think you do.”
Lifting my head, I crane my neck to look into his eyes.
“I’ve waited,” he says again. “And I’m done waiting. I’ve been falling for you a little more every week, and now I’m going to act on it. But I’ll go slow.” He leans down and places his cheek against mine. “So, so, slow,” he whispers. “Until I’ve earned your trust, your heart, and your body.”
I whimper. Never before in my life has my mouth made that sound.
“Fuck me. I’m going to hear that little sound of yours in my head every time I close my eyes.”
Maybe it’s that I haven’t been touched or loved in years. Maybe it’s that even when Eddy would touch me, he never created this need that Dillon causes just by breathing. Or maybe it’s that here, in my bedroom, for the first time, it feels like the happy home I’ve always tried to create is just within reach. Adrenaline races through my veins like a runaway car, and suddenly, I couldn’t control myself if I tried.
Whatever it is has me throwing myself at him. My dirty clothes and unwashed hair are all but forgotten as he wraps his powerful arms around me and molds my body to his in the way he says he craves.
His mouth descends on mine like I’m the last drop of water on Earth, and my cheeks flush when my core flames with desire.
I never knew kisses could be like this.
I never knew anything could be like this.
Dillon’s hand slides under my oversized sweatshirt. The feel of his palm on my bare skin has me shuddering against him.
“This isn’t slow, baby,” he growls.
“No. It’s not.” My words are a breathy, wanton admission. An admission that I want him as much as he wants me. An admission that I’ve lost all sense of balance around him, but I trust him to catch me.
Mari gurgles in her sleep, and he tears his lips from mine. His eyes are almost crazed. They’re foggy with lust I’ve never seen in a man.
“Bathroom.” He sounds urgent, demanding, and sexy as hell.
My brain isn’t working, and before I figure out what he’s saying, he’s ushered me into my tiny bathroom and up against the door.
I moan when he pushes his thigh between my legs.
