Chapter Thirty

Kolton

The house is quiet when I get inside. Not to my surprise but much to my dismay, I find Grizz asleep on the couch.

He’s been hanging around a lot lately, and I don’t fucking like it.

I don’t like anyone in my house, especially slobs like him.

The guy acts like he was raised by wild fucking boars.

The only positive is that there is someone watching after Anastacia and the baby when I’m not here.

Lucian has come around to check on her but only when I’m not here. Surprise, surprise. I insult him once and he avoids me like the plague. It’s a good thing I didn’t give in to his bullshit. I knew I couldn’t trust him. He gave up so easily.

I don’t know what he wants out of this, but whatever it is, it isn’t worth fighting for. Which isn’t good enough for me. If you aren’t willing to fight, then you’re not worth it to me. It hurts, but I’ve had enough years of pain to be used to it.

I kick my boots off and don’t bother to wake up Grizz. I’ve accepted that my couch is his new home, and whenever he decides to finally leave, I’ll just buy a new one. That one smells like his stupid ass.

I take a quick shower, not bothering to clean up since Anastacia has been doing it every morning.

She’s always commenting on how I like a clean house and she’ll do her best to respect that.

Since she’s been sleeping and eating better, she’s had more energy.

Lucian made a comment about “nesting.” No idea what the fuck that is, but I guess it has something to do with the baby coming soon.

Meaning, we need to figure out what the fuck we’re going to do about that.

Me and Razor have a deal. She will have a safe place to deliver the baby that isn’t a seven-hour drive.

It’ll take us thirty minutes to get her there, which is a much better number.

It gives us a better scenario of her having the baby safely and not in the back of my car or on my floor.

The Iron Runners do not have anyone over the border, as far as we know.

It feels like the smartest and safest bet.

With the towel wrapped around my waist, I drop my clothes into the washer and head for the stairs.

“Hey, Snapper,” Grizz groans as he sits up on the couch.

“Did your house burn down?” I ask.

He chuckles. “Nah. Just like knowing she’s safe.”

“I have a security system,” I argue, though I know it isn’t going to save her if they break in .

“That ain’t going to stop someone from shooting her.” He gets up, scratching the back of his head. “You, uh… should let her stay with me.”

“Excuse me?” I say as my spine goes straight.

“I think she’ll be safer.”

“How the fuck does that make sense?”

“Well, for one, I’m not the one who walked out of there with her. You’ll be the first one they go after to find her.”

“They haven’t come here.”

“I also have my brother and sister-in-law living with me. So she’d never be alone.”

I frown. “When the fuck did that happen?”

He frowns now, seeming a little confused.. “About a month ago. I told everyone about it at Church, because Tommy was thinking of joining.”

“He’s a cop.”

“He was a cop.” He shakes his head. “He’s retired.”

How did I miss that info?

Grizz is two years younger than Kaison, and his brother is much older than him. Close to Lucian’s age, if I had to guess. Tommy was a cop in Miami for a long fucking time. Never met the guy before, but I’ve heard a lot about him from Grizz when we were kids.

I know a little of this and a little of that about the guys' lives since we’re all the same age and grew up in this shitty town together.

Some of us went to school at the same time, but that doesn’t mean we were friends.

I didn’t have friends growing up, and don’t have any now either. I like it better that way.

“She said she wants to,” he says quietly.

Which pisses me right off.

“Why the fuck would she want that?” I hiss, stepping closer to him.

He holds his hands up. “She didn’t wanna tell you, but she doesn’t like being here in the middle of the woods by herself while you’re gone all day. She’s scared.”

“The whole town is in the middle of the woods,” I spit out.

Why am I so angry about this? I don’t know. I have no fucking idea why this hurts so much.

“You don’t have to get upset, Snapper. You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Fuck you.”

He sighs. “Look, we’re trying to do the same thing here, okay? Do you, uh… like her or something?” he asks carefully.

I hold his gaze for a minute, then a laugh bursts out of me. An actual laugh. A laugh because that’s funny. I haven’t laughed over something funny in years. “Do I like her?” I repeat, then laugh again. “Do I like her?”

“It’s just a question, man.” Grizz looks concerned now.

I step closer to him, eye to eye, my anger flaring up.

“No, Grizz. I don’t fucking like her,” I say in a low voice. “Wanna know why?” His face pinches into confusion, and I move closer. “I like cock. ”

His eyes widen, jaw drops. I wait for him to show some sort of disgust or anger or betrayal. Something. I’m naked, save for the towel around my waist, and I just told this big bad guy that I like dick.

The only person I’ve told this to is Kaison, and he would die before he told anyone.

Lucian, of course, knows, but that’s it.

I’ve thought of telling the guys, but why the fuck would I?

I’m not close with any of them like that.

We’re not friends. And my sexuality doesn’t fucking matter.

It’s none of their business what I do in my spare time, or who I like to have my dick in.

I have no idea why I told Grizz in the first place, and I start to regret it when seconds pass and he’s still staring at me, nothing coming out of his mouth.

“Uh,” is finally what comes out, and it turns into an awkward cough. “That’s cool.”

I laugh again, this time shaking my head.

“Fuck you,” I say as I turn.

“Why do you have to be like that, Snapper? I didn’t even do anything. You’re fucking mean all the time and for no reason.”

“We’re all mean, Grizz. Quit being such a bitch.”

“No, we’re all assholes, Snapper. You’re a fucking dick. You’re mean for no reason. You treat everyone like shit, then get mad when we do it back.”

I stop on the second step and turn to face him.

He adds, “Yeah, we can be mean to each other, but deep down, we all care about each other. We’re a family, man.”

“You got your period or something?” I spit out .

He scoffs, shaking his head.

“Whatever. I was just trying to help.” He moves toward the front door to leave, but stops before he’s in the kitchen.

He turns back to me. “I don’t care who you like, Snapper, but I do care about you.

And maybe that’s stupid to say, cause I’m supposed to be this big tough motorcycle club guy who kills people, but it’s important to know people care about you.

” My chest gets tight, and I grip onto the banister so I don’t fall.

My legs suddenly feel weak. “I’ll be by tomorrow to get Anastacia. ”

Then he’s gone. But he’s back first thing in the morning to collect Anastacia and her things. And once again, I’m left all alone, with not a single fucking person in my corner.
