“Yeah, but one of my favorite bands is performing at seven.” She pointed to the Edge of the Earth band T-shirt she wore. I didn’t know much about the band since they were new, though we sang along to some of their songs in the car sometimes. “Plus, you haven’t done anything fun in a few days.”
I clutched a couch pillow to my chest. “I want to watch this movie.”
Adam sighed, turning around to face me. “Listen,10 Things I Hate About Youis great, but we can only watch Kat puke on Patrick’s shoes so many times. And you only want to watch it because you wish you could slam Gavin with more than poetry.”
I hated that he was so right.
“I don’t feel like leaving the house,” I muttered. “If the band plays in our area in the future, I promise I’ll take you then.”
“They only come to Nevada once a year!” Emma frowned, giving me big puppy eyes. “And today is their last day.”
I sighed. “Can’t Uncle Reed take you?”
“One of his patients gave him a fever,” Adam said.
“He was just doing yard work this morning.” I narrowed my eyes at him before texting Aunt May and Dad if Uncle Reed really was sick. They both took less than a minute to confirm it.
“Okay, fine,” I said, turning off the TV. “We’ll go.”
“Yay!” Emma hugged me. “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome.” I went to the entryway table to grab my keys. “Ready?”
Emma eyed my worn-out T-shirt and basketball shorts. “You’re going like that?”
I groaned. “Do you want me to take you or what?”
“Wait.” She scurried down the hallway and came back with a pile of clothes. “Wear these. And put your makeup on in the car.”
“What?” I sifted through the clothes. A black tank top withStylebritewritten in rhinestones, jeaned shorts, and—had she seriously grabbed that bralette? “Why do I need to wear this?”
“It’ll make you feel better.” She gave me a hopeful smile.
“Fine. But I’mnotwearing the bralette.”
“Then wear the bra that makes your boobs look super huge!”
I gaped at her. “I haven’t worn that one in?—”
Adam pushed me toward the hallway. “We’re running out of time, hurry up!”
Sighing, I went into my room to change. I combed my hair a few times so I wouldn’t look like I’d crawled out of hibernation. Taking in my appearance, I looked nice.
Emma was right—I did feel better.
When I went back into the foyer, the twins grinned at me.
“Now that’s much better,” Emma said before exchanging a cheeky look with Adam.
“Okay, I see what you’re getting at.” I put my hands on my hips. “What’s really happening at What Do You Bean?”
“We just want you to look nice!” Emma chirped. “You know, for the band.”
I sighed. “Don’t tell me that you’re trying to hook me up with one of the guys.”
“Gross!” She wrinkled her nose. “Uncle Ryder would kill you.”
Heat rushed to my cheeks. “Not that type of hook-up!”
