After a minute of thinking, she answers, “Umm, yeah. It’s easy to get distracted with the numbers or the language for coding.”
I grin. “I know what you mean, but there’s a different feeling when you have a passion for something versus just doing something.”
“I didn’t have a passion for anything for a long time,” she says looking down.
“You’re safe with me, Lana.”
She looks me straight in the eyes at those words. She still isn’t sure I’ll stick around. I ought to kill her ex. He’s ruined her trust. How can a guy call himself a man after ditching her?
“How did you get into coding?” I push.
“My ex. He showed me some things and then talked me into getting certificates. I was good at it and it pays the bills.”
“And what made you want to buy a gym?”
“My friends kind of talked me into it.”
“So, what doyouwant to do?”
“What?” She furrows her brow.
“I’ve seen your face cooking. It’s not the same as you at the gym or on your computer. What do you really want to do?”
“Ummm...” She bites her lower lip. “I hadn’t thought much about it.”
“You should. I like your face showing passion. It’s super sexy. You should be doing what you want to do. The food you made was amazing! I have a few contacts I could reach out to for you. Maybe you could shadow someone. See what it takes to run a restaurant.”
“Um, I don’t know. You’ve already brought someone to my house. You don’t have to make a call for me. I’m not sure it’s even what I want.”
“I don’t mind making a few calls for you. You could let me help you.”
“I’ll think about it. What I was just thinking about is this handsome guy.” She trails a finger down to my dick and then grabs it. “Do you think he might want to come out and play?”
As much as I want my dick played with, I have to make sure she knows I’d help her. “We’re not done talking about this, Lana.”
“We could be.” She smiles with that cute dimple. That fucking dimple will be the death of me.
“We’re coming back to this discussion.” I roll on top of her and kiss her neck, leaving a trail of kisses until I get to her tits.
“We will. Later.” She giggles.
I give in for now. Lana is going to let me in. It’s just a matter of time.
Chapter 48
Lana
I’m on a run as the sun comes up the next morning. I have to meet Scarlett for wedding festivities, which means I had to be up early for this workout. I’m running on the beach with Queenie, with the sand between my toes as the sun is rising. The fresh air surrounding me as I hit step after step.
All I can think isI have a boyfriend! I have a boyfriend! I have a boyfriend!Last night was perfect. I didn’t want Grant to deny my dreams of being a chef like Ryan did, so I didn’t tell him what I really want to do with my life. I’ll tell him soon. As long as Grant and I stay together, he’ll find out eventually. I still have some hesitation on letting him in. He usually makes me tell him, but I was lucky to have distracted him last night. I still need more time.
Once I reach the beach house after running eleven miles, Grant is gone. The groomsmen were supposed to get together for their own festivities. Grant mentioned golf and day drinking.
I’m meeting up with the girls, plus Jason, for Scarlett’s last dress fitting, nails, and massages. I’m a little sad I won’t be able to see Grant until later, but I’ll just have to wait.
~
I walk into the dress store, looking around for my friends. Scarlett made sure she had the first appointment of the day. The girl loves planning. I’d have a headache every day of my life if I was her. I see Paige, Danielle—Matt’s sister—and Jason waiting on a couch and I go over to them.
