I turn back to look at him and he waves as I close my door. My stomach turns, knowing I’m about to be alone with Grantagainin Hawaii.

Chapter 21

Lana

Ipick a black dress with big white flowers on it that reaches my ankles. The long dresses hide everything but are still comfortable, so I’ve been feeling good wearing them. Usually I’d have brighter colors on, but the dark colors make me feel slim. Plus, cheerful colors aren’t calling to me right now.

I put on simple sandals that won’t hurt my foot and head downstairs early. When I get out of the elevator in the lobby, Grant is waiting.

He greets me with his usual big smile once he sees me. “You’re here!”

I stare at him, confused. I’m ahead of schedule. What’s he doing here?

“Didn’t want to miss you. I was ready, so I figured I’d wait down here. How’s your foot? You feeling okay?”

I let a small smile break across my face. He’s so paranoid. “I’m fine, Grant. Still hungry. You want to head over to the restaurant?”

“Yes, yes! Of course, you must be starved. It’s just down this way.” He starts walking, but turns to make sure I’m coming. We end up walking together with him pointing every now and then in the direction to go.

We pass numerous stores—some high-end, some gift shops, and several little to-go food places. Things like ice cream or pretzels. Then we reach the restaurant,Wave Grill and Bar,which is close to the spa. It’s also right on the beach and open to the public. There’s a huge water wall as we walk to the hostess stand.

“Welcome! How many?” the hostess greets.

“Two please,” Grant answers.

“Inside or outside?” she asks.

Grant turns to me. “Outside okay, Sunshine?”

I nod.

“Follow me,” she responds with a smile.

She leads us to a table under an umbrella with just a few people scattered about. The waves crash in the distance and tropical plants are strategically placed, making you feel like you’re in paradise—which we are.

Once we’re seated and we look over the menu, I find something healthy and fresh. Then I look down at my phone. There are a hundred text messages from Paige and Scarlett.

Paige: We’re getting bottomless mimosas atCrush.Come find us when you’re done swimming.

Scarlett: You okay? You haven’t texted us back or come to get these drinks.

Paige: CHHHHHAAAAAMMMMPPPPPSSSS

Scarlett: Okay, where are you? Did you get eaten by a shark?

Paige: Get on that Viking’s boat! ; )

Paige: GIF of a Viking on a unicorn riding a rainbow.

Scarlett: We just saw you in the lobby with Grant! Text back a letter if you’re okay.

Paige: GIF of a guy dry humping a tree.

Paige: Guess what? I’m in Hawaii, drinking!

Paige: I’m gonna take a nap.

Scarlett: If I don’t hear from you, I’m waking Paige up to go undercover and follow you. I have sunglasses and a hat on. No one will recognize me.
