“Exactly. Because I’m not getting any real answers from you,” I snapped with attitude.

Dr. Adler picked up the notes from Margot and read through them one by one while my heart rate returned to normal. When she was done, she looked up at me and pursed her lips together.

“You must feel hurt, Sutton,” she said, sliding to the edge of her seat. I nodded slowly, trying not to burst into another fit of crying. I was tired of crying. It hurt too much.

“Has Lennox ever cheated on you before?” She quizzed.

“Never. I used to think he was incapable of cheating no matter how bad things got.”

“Have you been feeling out of sorts lately, Sutton?”

“I don’t know. I guess. I know I haven’t been myself but I never thought it would push him away like this.” I could feel the tears begging to roll in again and I took a deep breath trying to stop them.

I noticed Dr. Adler and Lennox sharing a glance and I frowned at it. It was like they were speaking without words.

Anger sprouted and bloomed at a furious rate. “What the hell was that?” I exploded and stood to my feet. “Why are you two sharing looks?”

Lennox groaned and rubbed his forehead. He looked at the doctor again. Wild thoughts ran through my head a million miles a minute.

“Sutton, please calm down,” Lennox said.

“Is Dr. Adler, Margot? Is that what it is?” I laughed. It felt like I was hovering over my own body watching everything unfold.

“You think I’m cheating with the doctor? Are you fucking serious?” Lennox boomed. I was shocked by his anger. “Do you know any fucking thing about me?”

“Lennox, please calm down,” Dr. Adler pled.

“No! This is what I was telling you about.”

“You’ve been talking to her behind my back?” I squeaked.

“Yes, Sutton! I called her while we were on vacation because I needed to talk to someone about you!” He took a step toward me and Dr. Adler tried futility to calm him down. She seemed to fade into the background while Lennox and I faced off.

“Why are you talking like you’re the victim, Lennox? You’re the one destroying our marriage all so you can have sex with some random woman. Did you tell the doctor that you spent our entire vacation with Margot? Did you tell her about that?”

“Yes! I told her about Margot!” Lennox was bursting at the seams with frustration. His face shook with it.

“Lennox, this isn’t the way to do things,” Dr. Adler warned. She stood up too.

“This absolutely isn’t the way to do things, Lennox. You’re a liar and a cheater. You made me feel like trash all for some woman you don’t even know. You haven’t even known Margot for two damn weeks and suddenly she’s worth risking your wife?” I felt so lightheaded I thought I would pass out right there on Dr. Adler’s floor.

“Sutton, stop it!” Lennox roared. “There is no other woman, okay? You’re Margot, baby. It’s you. It’s always been you.” When his voice cracked under the weight of emotion, everything turned to static.

He was wrong.

He was making things up so I’d believe him.

I was sucked into a vacuum of silence and confusion. My brain hurt so bad. The pain was unbearable. I fell to the couch and Lennox knelt before me.

“Get away from me!” I shrieked. “You’re lying!”

“I’m not lying, Sutton.” His eyes were sad. Flashes of memory streaked my mind and I remembered seeing his sad eyes earlier today…

Earlier in his office.

I was never in his office though.

“Sutton,” Dr. Adler called out. “Can you still hear me?”
