“We all deployed from wherever we were, which, in a couple of guys’ cases, they were at the clubhouse.
They saw movement inside the compound and took after the shadow.
It was an intruder. He led us on a chase, but eventually we caught up to him.
He decided he’d rather shoot it out than surrender, so we shot back. ”
“And is he sitting out in the Cellar, or was he killed? Should I be dressed and waiting to talk to the police?”
“Babe, you don’t have to talk to the police because we’re not reporting it. There would be too many questions raised. The biggest would be what the man was doing here in the first place. We don’t want to answer that. I can say one thing. His coming here saved us trouble.”
“How?”
“Outlaw identified him. It was Stepan Belov, the hitman hired to take you out. It seems he figured out you were here. How, we have no idea. But that leaves us playing cleanup on the rest of the Rebels in the Alpharetta chapter and working with the Dark Patriots and a few others to clean up this group selling organs.”
“And exactly how long do you believe it’ll take for those two groups to be taken care of?” I asked.
“It’s hard to tell. If we’re lucky, a month or two.
But it could take six months. Bull has the other hackers helping us to follow every possible lead.
Until they’re all accounted for, we’ll have to be cautious, but that won’t mean you have to stay a prisoner in the compound.
I know how important work is to you, and Xander is about to start school soon. ”
“We’ll do whatever we must, though I love that we won’t have to stay hidden. Speaking of Xander, when are Roxie and her boyfriend supposed to be home from their vacation?” I asked.
“They’re supposed to be back tomorrow night. Why?”
“Because I know you intend to confront her, and I want to be there when you do. I have some things I need to say to her.”
“If I take you, no fighting. You’re pregnant,” he warned.
“I promise I won’t do anything to endanger the baby.”
The following day, at three p.m., we pulled up in front of the address plugged into my phone’s GPS.
We’d left the compound early to make the almost eight-hour drive here.
We told Xander that we had to get his mom to sign some paperwork and that we wanted to pick up the rest of his belongings.
He hadn’t been happy. I think he was scared she’d somehow get him back.
That would never happen, and I told him that.
He was spending the day and night with Easton until we got home tomorrow evening.
Loki and I weren’t alone. Until everyone associated with the Alpharetta Brutal Rebels chapter was neutralized and work was underway to find and take care of the organ sellers, it was smart for me and Loki in particular to have extra eyes on us.
Our escort consisted of Vex, Renegade, Stalker, and Predator.
Hatchet, Gears, and Torque had vied for the chance, but they lost out in the best three out of five games of rock-paper-scissors.
We drew up in front of a modest home in a decent neighborhood.
Nothing about it screamed wealth. However, looking at the other lawns, they didn’t appear neglected even though they were dead.
There were Christmas lights, decorations, and inflatables everywhere.
The house that Roxie and her boyfriend lived in was bare.
There was not a single light or festive bulb anywhere.
It was just under a week until Christmas.
Back at the compound, the entire place was bursting with holiday cheer, bright lights, and colorful decor.
Houses smelled of baked goodies, and last-minute gifts and preparations were underway. This place was depressing.
We parked out in front along the sidewalk.
We hadn’t bothered to warn them. The guys rode in cages, since Missouri’s weather was much less predictable and more likely to experience snow or ice.
They did wear their cuts. It seemed there was no one that Bull didn’t know.
He’d contacted the Dom club in the area and let them know he had a few guys there to take care of a custody issue.
The president of the Dom club had permitted the guys to wear their cuts and told Bull that if we ran into problems, to let his club know.
Loki had the contact information and location of their clubhouse.
We planned to deal with Roxie and Troy, then stay the night to be fresh for the long drive tomorrow.
Getting out of the SUV, Loki and I approached the door with only Stalker.
The other three would remain outside and on the lookout.
Stalker would stay on the porch while we spoke to them.
We weren’t planning to stay long. However, this wasn’t something that we’d handle over the phone.
That bitch could look my man in the eye while she explained why she did him that way, and while we ensured she would never come near Xander again.
When we reached the door, Loki hammered hard on it and then pressed the doorbell. With us close to the door, we could hear a man grumbling. He was yelling loud enough that we understood him. “Whoever is pounding on my door better be ready to lose some teeth.”
I was behind the wall formed by Loki and Stalker’s bodies.
My old man told me I could only enter if he thought it was safe.
I had news for him. It would take more than Roxie and her dickhead boyfriend to make me feel unsafe.
I knew it was Loki responding to the baby news, but that tiny being wasn’t bigger than a grain of rice, if even that.
It was well protected in there. Plus, I had no doubt Loki could handle Troy by himself.
The door swung open, and I could see enough through the crack created by the towering men in front of me to see the scowling expression on the man’s face.
I assumed this was Troy. Looking at him, boy, did Roxie trade way down.
Even if he wasn’t the man she cheated on Loki with, I wondered how closely he resembled that man.
“What do you think you’re doing, pounding on my door?” he asked.
“Are you Troy?” Loki asked.
“I am. What’s it to ya?”
The next thing I knew, Loki was backing him into the house with Stalker right behind him.
So much for Stalker staying outside. I snuck in behind them.
Troy was blustering and demanding to know what they thought they were doing.
A woman came running out to see what the matter was.
Her eyes bulged, and her mouth dropped open.
She was an average-height blonde who was on the skinny side with big tits. I bet they were fake. Her skin was dull and somewhat leathery, making her appear older than her age. I knew what it was from Loki.
“If you don’t leave, I’m calling the cops!” she shouted.
“Why don’t you do that, Roxie? And I’ll wait and see what they have to say about a mother dropping her son off outside a strange motorcycle club’s compound in another state and leaving him for weeks without a way to get in contact,” Loki snarled.
Her eyes widened even more, and she ran her gaze up and down my man. “A-Alex, is that you?” she croaked.
“My name is Loki now. There’s only one woman allowed to call me Alex or any version of that name other than my mom, and you’re not her,” he snapped.
“A-I mean, Loki, what are you doing here?” Roxie asked stupidly.
“Is this the man that brat belongs to?” Troy asked.
I curled my lip when I took in more of him.
He was shorter than Loki by four or five inches.
He had what people referred to as a beer belly, even if it wasn’t caused by beer.
His hair was messy and straggly. He wore a wife-beater that might’ve been white at some time, but was stained horribly.
He was dressed in a pair of baggy light gray sweats.
It pissed me off that he called Xander a brat. I had to say something. “If you’re referring to Xander, then yes, this is his father. However, that sweet boy is far from a brat.”
Troy ogled me while Roxie narrowed her eyes at me and scanned me. “Who is this bitch and what is she doing in my house?” she snapped.
“This bitch came to be with my man while he talked to you. We’d like to stay for the shortest time possible, so listen. Do as we say, and we’ll leave you to live with this one. Boy, you sure didn’t upgrade, did you?” I said sweetly.
Her face flushed a dark shade of red. Troy, on the other hand, leered at me. “Hot damn, look what just came through my door.”
“I suggest you shut up if you want to keep your teeth. Brae, move back over here.” Loki motioned me closer. I did as he said, though I wasn’t hiding behind him. I could easily beat Roxie’s ass, and Troy wasn’t a match for either man.
“I don’t want her in my house. And you can leave, too. I have nothing to say to you,” Roxie said snidely.
“I’m not leaving until I get a few things straightened out. Then, we’ll leave, and if you stick to our terms, you’ll never see or hear from us again,” Loki told her.
She seemed to consider it, then sighed. “Fine, but hurry up. We’ve got plans.”
She stomped over to sit in a chair. Troy was standing there blinking like he was slow—or maybe high. I needed to see his eyes close up, but to do so meant getting closer to him, and that was the last thing I wanted to do.
“Sit wherever,” she said offhandedly.
Based on the house’s condition, it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. God knows what one would catch. Since they gave away Xander, they had no one to cook, clean, or do their laundry. My lips twitched at the thought.
“No, thanks, I’ll stand,” I told her.
“We’re okay standing. First, I want to know why the hell you didn’t tell me you were pregnant. Even if you weren’t sure Xander was mine, you could’ve said something, and we would’ve had the test done when he was born,” was Loki’s opening volley.
“I was mad. You didn’t let me explain. You just flew off the handle and told me you never wanted to see me again.” Roxie pouted.
