She laughed. “It’s probably best that you don’t.

Could you see Rage and Wrath if you did?

They’d threaten the guy so much. Even if it were one of the other clubs, they’d have to deal with a bit of it, but not every day.

However, you’d have to move if you found one in an allied club.

I’d hate for you to be further away, but I’d be thrilled for you, which would help make up for it.

And it would let me become a grandma, so there’s that positive. ”

She wiggled her eyebrows at me. My brother was thirty-four and single. I was twenty-nine and the same. Mom was ready for grandbabies.

“I know. You’d be happy if I went and let some guy impregnate me to give you one.”

“I said if that were how it ended up, I’d be fine with it. I’d prefer you to have someone who loves you and treats you amazingly.”

“The way Rage treats you and Wrath is with Jalisa. Hence, why I’m a bit jealous.”

“Well, there will be guys from more than the Pagan and Warriors’ clubs there this weekend. Maybe you should see if anyone catches your eye. Just don’t let Rage or Wrath know about it. Could you imagine how they’d react if they thought you were looking for a man?” She laughed.

“Yeah, like they did when they saw me having dinner with the DA and thought I was out on a date. I thought they were going to make poor Eli piss himself.” I groaned.

“I know it wasn’t funny then, but how you described it, oh my God. I would’ve loved to have been there. They are something else.”

“They sure are. I had to tell poor Eli that they wouldn’t come to his house to make a late-night visit to kill him. He can’t wrap his head around how I can associate with bikers. I told him their bark was worse than their bite. He doesn’t believe me.”

“The bark is only worse if you’re innocent. If not innocent, it’s the bite that’ll kill you.”

I knew what she meant. As a lawyer, I was to uphold the law no matter what.

However, the way I grew up, I knew justice wasn’t always served.

And those who should be punished sometimes never were, or not to the degree they should be.

It was how I could turn a blind eye to what the Pagans and their friends did.

They were careful never to harm an innocent person.

To ensure I protected them, I recently had both chapters of the Pagans and the Hunters Creek Warriors sign official documents, making me their legal counsel.

I planned to get the others to do the same.

That way, anything they said, I’d be legally obligated to stay quiet, not that I wouldn’t anyway.

I’d protect my family to my last breath.

The clubs no longer dealt with illegal businesses like they did in the past. They protected people, helped their communities, and more.

The things they did that broke the law were to issue severe beatdowns on those who earned them, hack to get dirt on those people, and, at times, kill them.

That last one happened when they knew they’d never be convicted or wouldn’t serve time the way they should.

A man responsible for raping multiple women deserved more than twenty years for his crimes.

Or someone molesting children deserved more than a short jail stint or, heaven forbid, to get off due to technicalities.

Our legal system wasn’t without its issues and injustices. I wasn’t blind, though justice was supposed to be. Maybe I shouldn’t be a lawyer. I felt it was what I was meant to be, but I couldn’t pretend not to see its faults.

“Brae, just try to relax, have fun, and let work and everything else go this weekend. We’re here to have fun.

I haven’t had trick-or-treating with little kids or the costumes and candy since you and your brother were small.

I’m so glad the Warriors are having a huge celebration and invited us.

Rylan and the kids are so excited to see us.

When I told them you were coming, they cheered. ”

“I’m thrilled to join, and I’ve missed seeing them. Amiah and Autumn are growing so fast. It’s hard to believe they’re four and three already. At least if Hayes and I never give you grandkids, you have them from Maverick and Rylan and now Wrath and Jalisa one day.”

“I don’t know that Hayes will ever settle, and even if he does, he may not have kids.

If he does have any, he’s not letting me see them.

He cut ties with us because of my being with Rage and us not jettisoning the Pagans from our lives.

He sure won’t allow me to see my grandkids.

However, I have no doubt you will have children, honey.

I’ve got this feeling that the man for you is around the corner.

It could even be someone you’ve already met.

” The way she stared at me made me wonder if she knew I had the hots for someone.

Usually, I would tell her, but something held me back this time.

“Be yourself this weekend. If he doesn’t step up, he’s not the man for you. Move on,” she added.

“How did you know?” I gasped.

“I know you inside and out. I’ve seen how you look at him when no one is paying attention.

And I think he feels the same, but something is holding him back.

He either has to take the leap or let it hold him back.

If he does the latter, he’s not the man for you.

But you have to be brave enough to let him in and also declare yourself.

Don’t be like I was. Your dad can’t win,” she said softly.

“I’ll try. I promise,” I assured her.

The honk of a horn made us look at Rage. He looked concerned. I saw him mouth, Are you alright? Do you need me?

My heart melted as she blew him a kiss and shook her head. Yeah, I wanted that.
