“I-uhm, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Xander said hesitantly.
“Why?” I asked.
“Easton probably won’t like that his dad asked some kid to stay with him. He has his friends he can invite over,” Xander replied.
It was clear that this was another area where Xander felt left out, friends.
“Whoa, wait, Tank didn’t ask for Easton, not the way you think. Easton asked him first to find out. East wasn’t sure if you were ready to do that or if I’d let you, so he asked his dad to find out,” Loki told him.
Surprise turned to joy. “He did? Really?”
“Yeah. If you don’t want to, I can tell Tank no,” his dad replied.
“No! I mean, yes, I’d like to do it, please.”
“Alright, we’ll find out tomorrow when’s a good time. Also, if you guys want to sleep over here, we’re alright with it,” he offered.
“Maybe we can take turns,” Xander replied.
A knock prevented further discussion on the topic.
“May I be excused?” Xander asked.
“Yes, you may,” his dad said. As Xander hurried off, my man opened the door. There stood Demon and Zara.
We greeted them as we waved them inside. I leaned over to tell Zara, “I’m sorry for dragging you out. I told him it wasn’t necessary, but he kept thinking I needed to see a doctor.”
“It’s alright. I was the one who suggested it tonight. We have plans tomorrow, and I know how these Warriors are when they think someone in their family is sick.” Zara told me.
“Damn right we are. Can’t be too careful. You two do whatever you need to do. I’m making Loki give me a beer, and we’ll sit and talk shop. Where’s Xander?” Demon asked.
“He just went to his room. Where’s Alex?” Loki asked them.
“He’s at the house. Vex is with him,” Demon replied.
“Babe, we’ll go to the bedroom. Why don’t you get Demon a beer and talk about club business? Can I get you something, Zara?” I asked.
“No, I’m good,” Zara replied.
We left the men, and I took her to our bedroom. I knew club business would be all about Nelson and his later session.
“Now that we have the guys out of our hair, tell me what’s been happening and for how long. Don’t downplay it. I can tell you’ve lost weight, Brae. And you’re tired and drawn. I thought it was stress over the situation with Loki. Is that it? Or more?” Zara got right to the point.
I explained how I’d felt since right before returning to Georgia. She checked my vitals as I did. When she was done, she asked if I’d vomited and to describe my symptoms. Was there a particular time of day I had them? By the time I was done, she had a tourniquet, needle, and vials in her hands.
“I want to take some samples and have tests done. You could have a viral or bacterial infection. Although I’ve got to ask, is there a chance you’re pregnant?”
I shook my head. “No, I’m on birth control shots and it’s not due to be renewed yet.”
“Shots are no guarantee, especially if the guy isn’t using a condom. Are you using them?”
“No,” I responded slowly.
“When was your last period?”
I thought, then answered, “Two months ago, but mine are never regular, so it’s not unusual to skip one.”
“Do you typically lose your appetite, get nauseous, and lose weight due to stress?”
“Not usually, but I’ve never had someone put out a hit on me, so that could be why.”
“Besides the symptoms you already told me, have you had any of the following—sore boobs, belly bloating or cramping, spotting, or frequent peeing?”
“My stomach is bloated and I’ve had mild cramps. I’m peeing more, and my boobs are tender, but that happens right before I have my period.”
“It can also happen in the first month or more of pregnancy. Okay, I’ve got the samples. I’ll take them to be sent to the lab tomorrow, and I’ll put a rush on them. A blood test is more reliable than a home pregnancy test. We’ll see if there’s anything we need to treat or not.”
While she questioned me, Zara had effortlessly taken three vials of blood. I was still stuck on what she said were possible symptoms of pregnancy.
“Zara, do you think I really might be pregnant?”
“There is a chance. Why? Do you not want kids? If so, you and Loki should talk about it. If this turns out to be you’re pregnant, you’ll have to make choices.”
“God, no! I would never do that. And yes, I want kids, and so does he, but we hadn’t planned to have them soon. And with Xander coming into the picture, it’s probably not a good idea. Oh, God, what if that’s what’s wrong with me?” I gasped.
“What’s wrong?” Loki asked, scaring the hell out of me. I yelped and jumped. We hadn’t heard him open the door. Zara didn’t jump. She was packing away the things in her doctor’s bag.
“Loki, what’re you doing sneaking in here like that?” I snapped.
“I came to see how it was going. What’s wrong? Tell me,” he demanded.
“Nothing,” I denied.
“Zara, tell me,” he ordered.
“We don’t know if anything is the cause of her symptoms other than stress, Loki. As for what we were talking about, it’s nothing for you to be worried about. It won’t hurt her.”
“Then tell me what it is.”
Zara glanced over at me. I knew I had to tell him, but it needed to be done alone. “Let’s show them out and then we’ll talk. But I want it in here, where Xander won’t hear us.”
It was a couple of tense minutes until we had thanked Demon and Zara for coming and saw them out. Zara gave me an encouraging smile. Loki whisked me back to our bedroom, where he shut and locked the door. As soon as he did, I was gently pushed to sit on the bed while he remained standing.
“Tell me. What do you think it is? You’re freaking me out, babe.”
“Don’t be freaked out. I was denying something Zara mentioned. I told her it wasn’t, but she was reeling off symptoms, and I have some of them. It made me wonder for a moment if she was right, but she can’t be.”
“I don’t care if there’s zero chance of it, I want to know.”
“She suggested I might be pregnant. I explained why it wasn’t possible.
She asked if we used condoms, and I told her no.
She then asked about other symptoms. I have bloating and cramps, along with sore boobs, and I’ve been peeing more.
However, those happen before I start my period.
The fact that it’s been two months since my last period isn’t unusual for me, either. ”
I watched his reaction. Loki froze and stood there, not saying anything. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking, so I went to reassure him again, but he spoke before I could.
“What if you are?”
“If I am, then your sperm is very potent, and this is the worst time imaginable.”
“Why is it the worst time?”
I gasped. “Loki, we’re barely back together, we have people trying to kill me, and you have a son you’re trying to incorporate into a life with us. Xander would probably lose it if I were. He’ll feel like he’s been pushed from your attention by a baby. I’d hate for him to feel that way.”
“Do you not want a baby right now? Is that why you’re naming the other things?”
“What? No, that’s not why? Though we… Alexander, are you saying you want me to be pregnant?”
“I’m saying that I wouldn’t be angry if you were.
I don’t care when we have our first child.
You know I want kids with you. Is it a little tough with Xander’s situation?
Yes, but I can show love to my kids no matter what.
I can do anything as long as I have you at my side.
However, my parents will lose it. They’re dying to meet Xander, and I didn’t tell them about you because of the whole fiasco.
To find out that I have you and they’ll be grandparents again would make them lose it, but in a good way. ”
“I can’t believe you. You truly mean it, don’t you? You would welcome a baby.”
“With you, always. What about you?”
“Alexander, I will always want your children. Even if it’s unplanned, I’d welcome one.
I would never think of getting rid of a baby.
And you know how my mom is. She’s been asking for grandbabies for a while.
She’s asking Wrath and Jalisa how long they’ll make her wait.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. It could be nothing. ”
“We’ll know in a day or two. Until then, you need to take it easy, regardless. I want you to rest and stay off your feet. But first, I have something for you.”
“What?”
“This,” he said before he walked over, leaned down, and kissed me. Instantly, I was burning up for him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him there so I could ravish his lips. Loki chuckled. I was floating in a cloud of bliss by the time he ended it.
“I want you to get into your pajamas and then into bed. I’ll be back. I’ve got to check on Xander. Later, after he’s asleep, and I hope you are, too, I’ve got to meet my brothers. Nelson is waiting for us. He’s been put on ice until the kids are down.”
“Go check on Xander. I’ll be here when you get back.”
One more peck on the lips and he left me to ready myself. I couldn’t wait to hear what they found out from Iceman’s pathetic excuse of a dad. I prayed Nelson Newman would be the lead the clubs needed.
